Default 'Team Curlin' gets OK for NY license (7pm update)

http://www.drf.com/news/article/96173.html

Progress in push to get to the Man o' War...

The officials said on Tuesday that they believe Curlin will be ruled eligible to race by the end of the week. Entries for the Man o' War will be taken on Wednesday.

Steve Asmussen, the trainer of Curlin, said on Tuesday that he had been told that Curlin would be eligible to race in New York.

"Very recently I've been told we've been okayed in New York, and the plan is to ship to New York on Thursday," Asmussen said during a conference call.

Red Rocks, Better Talk Now, Grand Couturier, Sudan, Interpatation, Cosmonaut, Distorted Reality, Operation Red Dawn.

Could be one hell of a race.

Curlin's connections will certainly know where they stand regarding his abilities on turf after the man o war. If he can toy with the likes of Red Rocks (even though he is deeply flattered by being called a BC Turf winner!) , they know they have a very good turf horse..

He didn't even nominate for the race.

He'd have to give 7lbs away to Curlin under the conditions of the race the way I read them.

I think it's a distinct possibility. I also think that even if he runs well or wins this Saturday, he's still got no shot in the Arc.

Why is Red Rocks coming this early? Especially since the older Euros are seemingly soft this year.

Curlin a Man o' War 'go'...

The New York State Racing and Wagering Board will issue a license to the receiver representing the minority ownership interest in Horse of the Year Curlin, clearing the way for the horse to start in Saturday's Man o' War at Belmont Park, the attorney for Curlin's majority owner said late Tuesday.

Dancing Forever is skipping the Man O' War and pointing to the Sword Dancer. You're right about the weights, in fact both Grand Couturier and Better Talk Now will have to give Curlin 4 lbs.
