Default First Samurai owner may be headed to US Senate

It can only help to have a horse owner in the Senate especially with the expected involvement by congress over the next few years with drug and internet wagering issues at play. I met him last year at Churchill when he was running for governor and he was a nice guy. I could have done without the ass kissing by Donna Barton but he seemed pretty competent.

He is ahead in the polls.

I have met him several times. Very pleasant. Wears buckskin shoes a lot. Has been running for office for as long as I've known him. Never seems to actually win.

Yep I think that was one.
The horse that lost to Funny Cide in the Derby, escapes me, that was one
of his more successful horses.

I think that Peace Rules was actually the horse that ran 2nd to Funny Cide in the Derby. I believe that Peace Rules was owned by Ed Gann.

Empire Maker ran 2nd. I had the $97 exacta. The only Derby ticket I have ever cashed except for Street Sense.

Empire Maker was 2nd. PR was owned by Gann - he bought him after a turf victory at age 2 for Contessa I believe.

You guys are right. Peace Rules was 3rd. Empire Maker was 2nd. I'm going to have to watch the replay to refresh my memory.

I just watched the replay. Now I remember. Empire Maker caught Peace Rules in the last jump and beat him by a head.

Didn't every horse entered in the 2003 Derby lose to Funny Cide?

Had Lansdon on ATR Monday.. That was his homebred filly (Looky Yonder) that won the Vagrancy over the weekend. He's been involved with horses that have won 10 graded stakes since 2003, but that was the first female that has won one.

To answer a couple questions here, Offlee Wild was owned as a partnership horse wih a group he created to bring people into the game (Azalea Stables), and then First Samurai, and 2 or 3 more, with Lunsford. He still will buy at sales, but he's developed a broodmare band of 10-12 in NY and KY and is breeding his own that he runs alone or in partnership with friends or business associates.

He did not run 2nd (offlee Wild)
Never stated he ran 2nd.

Robbins thought Offlee Wild was a better horse as I remember
and he actually ended up beating FC at 4 I believe.

I remember that Bruce posted a few times back when DT was a Yahoo group, and it was very nice for a horse owner to take time and give us information. He seems like a great guy and I hope this time he does win.

Offlee Wild beat Funny Cide at age 3, 4, and 5. Beat him in the Holy Bull at 3...in the Mass Cap at age 4 in a very close race...and in the Suburban at age 5.

Lunsford in the Senate would be a disaster. He will have a really hard time defeating McConnell. McConnell has been a Senator for over 20 years now. Lunsford is a fine businessman but would be worthless and a disaster as a politician. And it isn't because he is a Democrat; it is because his ideas are idiotic.
