![]() ARCADIA, Calif. (April 10, 2008)—For the second time in 17 days, one lucky on-track Santa Anita patron has selected the only winning ticket in the Pick Six and will accordingly get the keys to an all-new, fully loaded Chevrolet Corvette. Joseph Scardino, 75, of Glendora, invested $1,008 and tabbed today’s winning ticket worth $105,208. In addition to his monetary winnings, Santa Anita Park, in partnership with Sierra Auto Group of Monrovia, will present Scardino with the keys to an all-new Chevrolet Corvette, as the result of a promotion Santa Anita has conducted throughout its 2007/08 winter/spring meeting.
“I love this promotion,” said Scardino, a regular player and horse owner for the past 35 years. “This feels awesome. It’s something I’ve been talking about and it was a nice challenge. (Winning) the Corvette makes you invest a little bit more—no question.” Scardino, a retired drywall contractor who lives with his wife of 50 years, Josephine, in nearby Glendora, has also experienced considerable success as an owner, and has employed Julio Canani as his trainer for a number of years. “We claimed Silver Circus (circa 1988) out of a maiden $32,000 claimer and he won the Hollywood and Del Mar Derbies. Then we took Bruho out of a maiden $50,000 (circa 1989) and won the Bing Crosby and the Pat O’Brien Handicaps at Del Mar.” Scardino also pointed out that he lost Budroyale via the claimbox “for $50,000 and he went on to make $2.3 million.” When asked if he had notified his wife, Scardino replied, “Yes. She said ‘I knew you’d do it some day.’ She had more faith in me than I did myself.” In addition to the Corvette, Scardino noted that the $105,208 will come in handy. “Alex Solis Jr. picked out a 2-year-old filly in training at Keeneland and we just bought her yesterday,” he said. “She went for $600,000, so this helps.” Scardino’s hit comes on the heels of James Micheil of Duarte, winning $131,295 and a new Corvette on March 24. Santa Anita’s winter/spring meeting comes to an end April 20.

![]() But ya know ... I want to go to California and spend a season. I want to do Del Mar, and Hollywood, and Santa Anita. I want to hear the Friday night bands, watch the partying, and do night racing that's not at Sportsman's in Chicago <g>
California just seems like ... California! ![]() |

![]() The tax on the car depends on his current tax bracket. He will have to pay a tax on the fair market value of the car. I am sure he has a good accountant that puts him in a low tax bracket.

![]() To clarify......twas a nice job of cappin and putting together a big paying ticket....not looking for the dark cloud here just saying that after the withholding on the winnings and the taxes on the 'vette there will not be alot left over to help pay for the 600k filly.
In addition to the Corvette, Scardino noted that the $105,208 will come in handy. “Alex Solis Jr. picked out a 2-year-old filly in training at Keeneland and we just bought her yesterday,” he said. “She went for $600,000, so this helps.”
