Default Sampson out at Indiana

The early word here in Indy this morning is that the board of trustees have decided to fire Sampson. He will be replaced by Dan Dakich. The story is being reported by WTHR in Indy.

It's unreal. The guy can come in and uproot the program and they have to spend three quarters of a million to buy him out when he "resigns". What a joke. He should owe the school money. I guess the next team that hires him will deserve what they get.

Can the NCAA still go after IU, or does this "satisfy" their obligation?

Also heard that a lot of the players there have threaten to quit the team if he was fired. Maybe Joey could fill us in more on the recent events at IU and what impact it will have.

They still can and likely will but this should lessen the sanctions. I've always thought that the sanctions should follow the coach as well. Whatever punishment Indiana gets should at least be matched for whatever team next hires Sampson.

The NCAA is a joke. They allow guys that brazenly break the rules like Sampsom to get jobs as soon as they are "fired" but if a player wants to transfer he has to sit out a year unless the school he is transfering from grants him a release. If OJ Mayo gets comp tickets to a Lakers game left for him by a guy on the other team that he has known for years it is a violation. But coaches get to sign contracts with sneaker companies that pay them hundreds of thousands to force his team to wear their brand shoes. They just look the other way when watching Bowl 'bids' get handed out.
