Default Hayward on 'talks'; State offers Extension..

http://news.bloodhorse.com/viewstory.asp?id=42787

NYRA head Charlie Hayward, who has the patience of Job, provides extensive insight to the Bloodhorse Saturday into where the negotiations with the state are headed. The fetid vileness and corruption of Senate Majority Joe Bruno in this equation is so obvious as to be laughable. No matter how any of us wants this to turn out, it seems at this point that the final outcome will be an abortion thanks to Albany's shallowness and ineptitude.

I can't believe this is happening in our state. It's an absolute embarrasment.
Joe Bruno is just being stubborn because it's all about the CASH. I had great respect for this man at one time, but it's quite obvious he has an agenda.
I hope for the horsemen, the backstretch workers, and anyone else that makes their living at the track, that there is a solution to this mess.

Bruno has so overt an agenda that even those of us outside NY politics see it loud and clear. And I grew up with Chicago Mayor Richard Daley working his magic right next door. What an embarassment Bruno is.

It looks like racing will have to shut down Jan. 1 to get a deal out of Albany.

I was actually very surprised that it seemed like things were going to get sorted out in a timely manner.

This crock of sh*t, unfortunately seems much more par for the course.

What's really amazing is that three years ago Spitzer wanted NYRA out and Bruno was defending them.

My take on the matter is that I've thought for a long time that Spitzer just loathes racing and if he could ban racing in the State-as it was in 1911 and 1912-he would do. Perhaps by delaying until September 4th he thought he could rid the state of the sport for at least a few months...

Bruno however is just as bad, maybe worse, and his agenda is now the one that's threatening so many peoples liveliehoods.

Apparenty you didn't see him on Travers Day. He arrived, with his family, at the beginning of the card, was betting early and often, and having a great time.

Your " take " is simply not true.

As much as I disagree with Gov. Spitzer, he certainly is the lesser of two evils in this fight. Plus he got it right when he called Bruno a "senile piece of s**t."

According to "The Blood Horse", NYRA has been offered a temporary extension. If I'm Charlie Hayward, I tell them to stick it.

This story gets it pretty much right. Bruno is caught between a rock and a hard place - in his warped world. In order to stop what Spitzer was looking to do (and not admit it is about the slots), Bruno has been forced into bashing NYRA. However, the thoroughbred industry and the Saratoga City leaders are pro-NYRA, so now he's doing things against the wishes of his constituents. The result is that he's been getting huge heat from his constituents, who see him as more a part of the problem than part of the solution on this issue.

Bruno now either has to accede to the wishes of his constituents - and let Spitzer "win" this issue, which Bruno is loathe to do. Or he continues to fight Spitzer and support a well-financed donor (Capital Play), at the risk of further alienating his constituents.

This extension for the NYRA beyond Dec. 31 makes little sense. There's been plenty of time to resolve this matter. All the extension does is enable this stalemate to go on for an indefinate period of time.

The deal should be finalized by Dec. 31 or NYRA should shut down racing to get it done.

PG..

Hayward has said he's ammenable to the extension AS LONG AS the basics of the MOU, with any agreed-to changes, is in place and simply awaiting formal approvals...

The 'deal' needs to be in place, from NYRA & Hayward's perspective by 12/27 which is when the Bancruptcy Court is scheduled to let the Association emerge from Chapter.. It needs to be in place as it's paramount within NYRA's plan that the Court already approved.

isnt nyra going to lose $27 million for the year 2007? if this is the case, then some sort of deal needs to be hashed out.
