Default Calder Friday 8/10

Race 8
I have been waiting for 4, Itsibitsibikini (ML 8-1), to run back and she has found a real soft spot in this race. She has been steadily improving, showing better speed and has run closely behind a half dozen who are all better than anything in this race.

The others
1. Big Shadow looks too cheap and too late.
2. Irish Gypsy looks a bit cheap but is improving and could certainly win.
3. Steady Slew and 6 LAuralises Sister: These are decent horses but they look cheap. That stakes race was incredibly phony as the horse who were 1-2-3 at the 3/8 (the three favorites) all finished out of the money. The horses who finished 1-2-3 -- these two plus Imelda Oh -- were the furthest back.
5. Sophisticated Event -- Two months off but ran real well in her win and ran decent sprinting at Gulfstream. She could definitely win.

Itsibitsibikini:
In her last race on 7/16, at 14-1, she was right on the pace inside a real good horse named My Prefered who was going for her fourth straight win on the dirt. The horse that won the race, Appealing Runner, came from the back at 6/5 and was dropping from a stakes race 3rd. Appealing Runner has not run back. My Prefered got second. Itsi was beat on the wire for 3rd by Princess Ann Lei who was dropping from a stakes. It did not appear Itsi was overly used late in the race.

On June 30, Itsi ran 3rd behind Reason To Rejoice, Gothic Beauty 2nd. Itsi ran next to Gothic Beauty much of the race and missed 2nd to her by 3/4 length while running well late. Reason to Rjeoice has not run back. Gothic Beauty, however, ran back on July 26 at Del Mar for new owners and wired a field of older $45-$50k claimers at 3-1. The horse that ran 4th, Just for Keeps came back and ran 4th going long.

On June 14, Itsibitsibikini ran 4th behind Chiara, Reason To Rejoice and Gothic Beauty. Chiara ran back in a stakes on Summit day, losing all chance at the start. Smitty's Sunshine won that race.

On May 26, Itsi ran 5th behind Banda Victoria, Chiara and Reason To Rejoice at 33-1. Banda Victoria came back to run in a stakes won by Cher Ami (Appealing Runner 3rd). Cher Ami came back in the Azealea -- won by Sheets -- on Summit day and led for a half in a very fast pace at 4-1.

On May 6, Itsi was coming off a 6 month layoff and ran well back in a race won by Shesgoldincolor with Chiara 2nd and Reason to Rejoice 3rd. Shesgoldincolor stepped up to win her next at 21-1 then ran very well in a stakes on Summit day. Itsi beat Shesgoldincolor in her next to last race last year.

I see little chance of Itsi getting caught inside on the pace and I'd guess one or both of the two inside horses are near the front early. Rosemary H should be able to sit just off the lead and have no trouble trip-wise. The trainer/owner has been very patient with this horse, never running for a tag. Also nice to see a work on 8/5.

I think she's the superior horse in here by a good margin.

I am sure you will get this joke:

are you sure it is race #7?

Thanks for the analysis. I'll be stuck at the office, but I'll try to somehow make a play on "itsi".
