Default Ellis Park - FYI...

TVG and Youbet.com — will no longer accept wagers on Ellis because of a dispute with Churchill Downs Inc. and its partner, Magna Entertainment Corp

Meet is bound to be a disaster due to the twin bridges construction and competion from Arlington and River Downs. The first three days look horrible.

Wow 4% takeout I really hope they get big pools. We need more promotions like this at all tracks.

I for one will play it just because of the takeout. It will be interesting to see how significant the overlay on the pick 4 versuses the parlays will be. I know that at Sam Houston with there 12% take on pick threes the difference is very noticable.

I don't think RD will effect Ellis much (they've been in competition for years), but the Poly at AP seems to be a hit w/horseman and many KY barns are running there.

Ellis is no longer owned by CDI; I wonder why there's a dispute w/YouBet and TVG?

Ellis' simulcast signal is distributed by CDSN so thats why there is a dispute....I will be playing the Pick 4 tomorrow at Ellis....I really hope it catches on and other tracks follow Ellis' lead.

The only other pick 4 that has a low takeout is Laurel,and I think their's is 12 percent,so 4 % is a deal.

Bridges, smidges ... fans will get there. It won't be the greatest race cards, but I love the atmosphere. A hot day, some cold beer, meeting up with a few buds, and playing Saratoga when it opens later this month. Beats the hell out of a dreary OTB.

Anybody else gonna be there opening day?

I read about the 4% takeout on the late pick-4 earlier today. I will learn to handicap Ellis if it is the last thing I do, upon hearing that news.

Not sure where that comes from it looks like the they have good size fields. All I have heard is that new management is really trying to make it work. I wish them good luck. Certainly the claiming crown will help. I agree that some will ship to AP but I doubt RD will pull from Ellis.

By making it work do you mean taking TV's out of the clubhouse and moving them to the grandstand area? TV's are expensive so cutting corners is a good move.

I think the new owner is in over his head. To buy from a competitor is foolish, IMO. Basically what the meet is going to be is a Fairmount-Indiana Downs shipper extravaganza. Yeah that ought to get the handle up.

The "Pea Patch" one of my favorite meets of the year. Always has success betting on the 6k-10k open claimers from Fairmont shipping into Ellis taking on those same priced claimers from Kentucky. The 6k-10k claimers from Fairmont seem a little more classier to me.

Love those sharp FP shipins from that deep track when they ship to ElP, Ind, Hoo and Haw.

I guess its all about your perspective then. Barns renovated and freshly painted, brand new quarters for the back side help to live in, claiming crown, etc is all good for the sport and the people who work in the sport. With Churchill Downs Trackside closing for the summer there are several of those trainers taking a string of horses down to Ellis instead of going to CD. The fields so far in the first three entry days are strong.

Half empty or half full? The guy is trying and you cannot fault him for that even if you think he is in over his head

In past years, I believe Ellis either had the highest average field size or was very close to the best.

Default How can you

put Fairmount Park claimers and class in the same sentence?

Ive been there there is only one extraordinary trainer Raul Martinez.

But I don't see how you can put those two things in the same sentence. Ive been to Fairmount they run for next to nothing.

Alonso Quinonez, who some considered to be the top rider at the meet, has moved his tack to SoCal just in time for the Del Mar meet. He's set to ride 4 on Thursday at Hollywood.

I don't agree with this move at all. Kid had a chance to make some decent money and win the riding title and he's risking that for a chance out west. Del Mar is going to be brutal for him.
