Default Adagio to the US

he was a useful enough colt over here. was sent off favourite for the 2000 Guineas... Im not his biggest fan and he can mimic his name at times in races.. He could be a nice type at 10-12f..

ADAGIO, who started 4-1 favourite for the 2,000 Guineas but disappointed in finishing 12th behind Cockney Rebel, has been sold privately to continue his career in the United States.

The Craven Stakes winner was trained by Sir Michael Stoute for Coolmore, but in a deal brokered by bloodstock agent Andy Smith and completed on Monday, the son of Grand Lodge is set to join Richard Dutrow.

Adagio's new owners are IEAH Stables, the racing and breeding subsidiary of International Equine Acquisitions Holdings, the New York-based corporation founded in 2003.

Smith said on Tuesday: "I gather the horse will go to Richard Dutrow, subject to confirmation. The deal was concluded yesterday.”

Dutrow said later: "I was told he is coming to me, though I have not spoken to the owners very recently, and I'm not sure we have got any kind of plan yet.

"All I have seen is his past performances on paper, I haven't seen any videos, but I can't wait till I get hold of him."

He added: "I presume that he will be coming to New York, but I have horses all over the country.

"IEAH Stables are big owners and they like buying horses from Europe. They have bought a whole bunch of them, and are always looking for horses they think might have a future racing over here."

Adagio, who last year finished seventh in the Dewhurst Stakes after winning a maiden at Newmarket, ran for what proved the last time for Stoute in the Dante 13 days ago. He finished fourth behind Derby favourite Authorized.

In 2005, Smith bought the Neville Callaghan-trained 2,000 Guineas runner-up Rebel Rebel for IEAH Stables, whom Dutrow trained to win at Grade 3 level at Belmont Park.

However, he fractured a cannonbone in finishing eighth in last year's Hong Kong Mile, and had to be put down last month after failing to recover.
