Default Least effected by pole position

imo Great Hunter & Tiago !! though I'll be very surprise if either won. My reasoning is the lack of pace and I'll be shocked (to say the least) to see a barbaro like performace. so the million dollar bonus is safe...

I thought Dominican chose after Great Hunter
I guess they figured it doesn't matter

but what if 3 horses scratched out of the Derby
I know
never happen
but if he was in 19 and there was a scratch

doesn't matter

doesn't matter

The more I think about Curlin. With his innside Post he could compromise some of the early speed colts because he will get position and force them to outrun him to get inside and not get hung wide in the first turn. Is this why Assmusen picked inside og Z, to keep the others fron wipeing Curlin out?

AE - I think the logic for taking 20 over 19 is atleast you have nobody on your outside to bump with. . .

he said something to the effect of" they've been working out together, so it may relax both of them to be next to each other"

Can't argue with that logic

can't help thinking the 20 doesn't have many wins (1?) due to the fact that most years, there is no 20 horse. makes sense for the inside posts to have the most, as they fill EVERY year.

What's the most Juvie runners that've made the field? I just think its impressive that the top 5 finishers are back. Given the obsession with precocity it'd be interesting to see where they all finish as a group. This might be the Juvie jinx-breaking year too.

Are they actually going to be able to calm Stormello down or is it a fool's errand? I just think it's one thing to trick him into going slowly during a work when he doesn't realize that's what he's doing, another to be in a chaotic rush to the first turn with 19 other horses and a wall o' sound as they head to the homestretch.

Circular Quay.

He will be coming from far back anyway and can run all day anyway. And I dont think there is going to be enough speed for him to make a run. So the only way I see him winning is if the field is very tight coming into stretch and he gets to the outside and blows by a bunch of packed horses at one time. Its his only hope.

I agree and think you can put SS in the same catagory. They both need to pass several horses in a group bunched up. Passing a lomg strung ou field will be very tough for either one. If they get there trip it could be very exciting with about half of the field gutting it out for the wire.

You think?
I think SS can be closer to the pace. I think his problem will be in a pack. If he gets a nice path behind a smaller group of front runners I think he can pick them off one by one.

What? I thought the thread was about the horse that would be least affected by post position. So this thread is about Great Hunter not having to wait as long locked in waiting for others to load?
