![]() I'd like to propose a bit of a game. This isn't so much a contest but it's a game I've found in various forms on many a message board. Often it involves picking a favorite character by listing them, assigning everyone the same number of points, and people subtracting 1 for one they dislike and adding 1 for one they do like. In this case I'm open to suggestions for how many points to allocate since we'd be trying to finish it before the Derby but here's the deal. Once they come out with post positions and everyone's entered that's going to, we'll have a list of (likely) 20 horses right? Well rather than just picking your favorite horse, you'll have a corresponding post position to factor in.
Normally these games start with 10 points per name (will that be enough in this case? Perhaps 20 points instead. If it's moving too slowly, it often turns into +1, -2 so the stragglers go sooner.) and the only restriction is that you can only vote if someone else voted previously. In other words, no running down a horse in less than 20 minutes with back to back votes. Others do once an hour or once a day but that would probably take too long, unless you start with only 10 points each. Now I've never done this with Derby horses before and I meant to last year but I think this could be fun. We'd in effect come up with a consensus pick by doing a push/pull until only one is left as the winner. We can talk about it until the draw's over at which point I could set the list up with the allotted points and voting rules. Remember you can like 5 horses and just take turns pumping them for instance. It's not one horse that you have to like or dislike, you can spread it out. The board will narrow it down for you. Might be a hilarious thing to play that exacta or trifecta--you know, the top 2 or 3 vote placings. Anybody game? |

![]() Ok everybody starts out with 10 points, put + or - 1. I'm actually gonna tweak the rules a bit and say you can handle up to 5 horses in one turn or it'll take forever. Add, subtract, or mix it up and do some of each. You can do different horses each time, no biggie. Here's a link to the morning line odds with trainer/jockey listed if you care in any way at all. http://tcm.bloodhorse.com/viewstory.asp?id=38745
