Default I Feel Badly For......

Larry and Tom.

While I'm well aware it's a very small part of the big picture.

I was really interested in hearing how they both called the race.

I found myself getting nervous for them. Also have spent that last week or so wondering how I'd do, what I'd want to say.

Must be incredibly deflating for both of them.

This news so sucks!!

Here is how I envision Vic's planned Triple Crown Call...

And lets see, you had better take a look at I'll Have Another! He's a Chestnut like Secretariat with a noseband just like Seattle Slew's.

I'll Have Another is 4th right now, but could soon be into 2nd.

And there he goes!! and slingshots past rivals with the speed of Count Fleet, the class of Citation, and the heart of Affirmed!! I'll have another is about to ASSAULT the record books and look at him WHIRLAWAY from them like a GALLANT FOX!!!

I'll Have Another is STRAIGHT AND STRONG and he strides away!! He might win from here to OMAHA!! Is this the biggest Cinderella story since when Sir Barton broke his maiden in the Kentucky Derby? YES!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

This one I can comment on. It will mean ZERO to both of them.

Just another race.

Of course it shouldn't be that way. It's the Belmont after all.

If it were me. I'd wish I didn't have to call it at all.

I know that sounds crazy but I'll bet that's the way they both feel.

I wonder if they get choked up during the funeral procession? I hope NYRA management flies in a few musicians from the HBO series Treme for it. Someone close to them pass that along.

I understand where your coming from Vic. It's human nature to have those feelings, i mean let's face it they're calls would have been part of potential history as well. It's just stinks for them, and all involved, just terrible news.

The next time calling a Triple Crown race for a national audience is "just another race" might be a sign you don't have the interest to be in the game.

It's the 144th running of a legendary test in the sport. I think it would be an honor for anyone who donned the mic to have the opportunity.

If you were a real announcer you'd understand that statement.

Try it. It's enjoyable.

I know plenty of real announcers who disagree with that sentiment.
