Default Woo-Hoo.. 8 more 'Win/In' BC races!

Breeders' Cup adds eight foreign qualifiers
By Matt Hegarty

The Breeders' Cup has added eight races in foreign countries to its "Win and You're In" program that guarantees the winner a starting position in one of the Cup's 14 main-event races, scheduled this year for Nov. 6-7 at Santa Anita Park in Southern California.

The new foreign races are:
  • Pretty Polly Stakes at the Curragh on June 27
  • Irish Champion Stakes at Leopardstown on Sept. 9
  • Champion Stakes at Newmarket on Oct. 17
  • Moyglare Stud at the Curragh
  • Diamond Stakes at Dundalk on August 9
  • Prix Maurice de Gheest at Deauville also Aug. 9
  • Manikato Stakes at Moonee Valley on Sept. 25
  • Prix de L'Abbaye at Longchamp on Oct. 4

What a relief for the connections of the Prix de L'Abbaye and Irish Champion winners.

What are the odds of the Manikato winner showing up?

Joe Janiak has considered Takeover Target for the BC and it would be a likely winner of the Manikato.

It's really cool that a horse that wins the Washington Park Handicap gets a spot over a horse that wins the Big Cap, World Cup, Met Mile, Hollywood Gold Cup, Whitney, Woodward, and Jockey Club Gold Cup. Clearly the first horse would be the more deserving of a spot in the starting gate. The second horse would be a nothing in the eyes of the BC having never even run in a Win and You're In event.

You can have all the 3:1 you want on the winner of that race showing up at the BC. You know where to find me.

No Aussies will show up because of the additional fees involved after winning a "win and your in" event. Between nominations (which are due BEFORE the Manikato) and the costs of shipping and quarantine, it's a no go. It is too bad because after seeing Scenic Blast last week in England I was reminded of how good the Aussie sprinters are.
Honestly, the win and in concept is idiotic. It's not like the winner of any of those races, should they want to go, would be excluded. It's like calling the Wood Memorial a "win and in" for the Derby. Well, DUH!

Typical American marketing hype Bullshat. Meaningless, uninteresting and a waste of breath.

Haha.

Have they not noticed that the BC is usually run the same weekend as the Cox Plate?

After last year's results, I will not be surprised if a larger, stronger foreign contingent shows-up.

Are all the horses leaving Kentucky now considered foreign?

How about the Kenyans? They seem to do well in every marathon race.

I think who(m)ever wins will opt for the Sprinters Stakes at Nakayama in October and then the Hong Kong Sprint in December.

I know TT was brought up but I'd think the retirement announcement will come pretty soon.

Rocket Man, however, is pointed..... the pride of Singapore.

Nice horse.

That must be part of Suffolk's strategy in canceling the Mass Cap this year.
