i've heard a lot of talk about flynn-he's on several peoples' radar, and is a free agent after this year. he's a better qb than some starters out there.

Didn't people say the same things about Kevin Kolb?

There are probably a bunch of back-up's in the league now that you could have acquired for nothing more than a 3rd round pick.

It's ludicris to think that Carson Palmer might cost them 2 #1 picks. It's highway robbery.
That's what I'm saying, they could get someone like a Flynn for a lower level pick, I'm no big Palmer fan. After 4 pm today, their only choice was to go after some old bones. The question is: of what value is Boller, that they would completely bury next years draft (they had already lost 3 other high picks), and start ruining year after nexts draft.

I am a cowboys fan and would happily take that deal.

Why not just start Pryor, he is eligible now and has worked out with the team.

I'm not sure of the details, but Palmer was eating up Cincy's cap space, so not only did they get 2 picks, but they freed up some room.

As far as Flynn goes, I could think of a handful of other guys with expierence that would have come cheap and been a better alternative then Flynn.

Guys like, David Carr, Charlie Whitehurst, Derek Anderson, Shaun Hill, John Kitna.

I asked a Cowboy fan I work with the same question and he said he would do it in a heartbeat as well.

I can think of several teams who would benefit from giving Flynn a chance over their current situation, including Flynn vs. healthy Campbell.

Vikings would probably do the same with McNabb.

The pack wasn't going to give Flynn away especially since they have no other backup QB on their roster. All packer fans love seeing flynn play in the 4th quarter assuming a 3 TD+ lead with A-Rogers on the sidelines smiling but I would not be comfortable with Matt Flynn as my every day QB. Pack would have had to get a serviceable backup with any trade for Flynn and that wasn't happening.

I honestly was thinking the same thing, on 2nd thought it looks like he wasnt even eligible to practice with the team, he could only be in team meetings. So I can see why they were scrambling to find a QB

Palmer could still have something left...at least he won't have to deal with a pair of self-centered, over-rated WR's.

flynn has way more upside than any of those guys.
raiders paid too much for palmer, who is probably thrilled. poor campbell, guy can't catch a break. probably his best year, and now he's out for at least 6 weeks.

romo's biggest problem is he's always been over-rated. he's no worse now than he ever was. but he, much like his team, is picked each year to do something more. what i don't get is why people feel that the team or the qb will do better.
insanity-doing the same thing expecting a different result.

Seriously? Pryor makes Tebow look like Joe Montana.

I think people are overreacting about this trade. Think about it for a second. We are talking about the Raiders number 1 picks that are now Bengals number 1 picks. Based on the recent draft history of both teams they will pretty much be wasted regardless of who makes the selections.

What is a starting QB worth in the NFL? What is a starting QB worth to a potential playoff team in the NFL? What is a 31 year old former all pro starting QB worth to a franchise that hasn't been to the playoffs in nearly 10 years?

Time will tell if this was a good trade for either team. For cincy, it was a no brainer. For the raiders, making the playoffs would make it seem worth it to me.
