What do you think his fee would be if he retired right now?

Perhaps Phil is leaning a little high, but 1k? $7,500 sounds like a good number.

Not my strong suit.

This horse is a minorly accomplished slow horse. Perhaps that will change....but it usually doesn't.

But, hey, the TC trail is full of these horses and nobody seems to remember these discussions after these plethora of supposed contenders become the non-contenders that any sane person knew they would be.

Court Vision hasn't really flashed an elite level of talent that prognosticators see readily and tout in January. There is really nothing about him that puts you in awe, but he is so far the classiest horse, and has the right style. A lot of people think this is War Pass and Zito's year. It is also hard not "want" to see Monba develop into the horse that he has seductively shown signs of being. Anak Nakal still has every opportunity to be the best, and Asmussen has that Siphon City colt (Fortune) running like a bear, and actually looking like he may out-run the pedigree.

I was wondering the exact same thing.

Looks good in a tux? Always stands for a woman at the table?

I have no idea....but it sounds like the kind of thing someone says about a horse they like but have no good or defendable reason to back up that opinion.

Does he now? Sad that a 3 year old colt has more manners than most men.

stamina. can rate, shows a response, is game to the wire, adequete talent , looks good in a tux...

His main question marks are his talent and his trainer. Both are "solid"

He was number one on my list after the remsen. We are supposed to tout the Zito horse, but i don't mislead on this site. Wouldn't be surprised if Court Vision won the Derby or finished off the board. We have three months.

a 3yo i find more intriguing than CV is public image. he runs like he can go much further, but i'm iffy on his breeding and the amount of time left before the derby.

he's by benchmark out of a half to officer. very impressive, at least visually.

I was also confused.

Further, last I looked - it was Pyro who is the future book Derby favorite and not War Pass.

Thumbs up you guys are tough!

Future bets... Shmooture bets. If the Derby was run today, War Pass would be the clear favorite.

And deservedly so. He has "earned" the public's favortism. Appraising the public's favorite horses is very important. Anyway, this morning, I came across a nice piece of work that Steve Haskin put together
Derby Contenders with SH top 10: http://www.bloodhorse.com/pdf/War_Pa..._Spotlight.pdf
He did a nice job with all his writeups and it is a nice read.

Haskin leaves two very important names off of his top 10 ranking. Visionaire - A Matz trained horse with a lot of potential(Valor bought in will be placed in some of the bigger preps) , and Denis of Cork - a Carroll trained horse with a "push button" style. Haskin does mention that Borel has commited to Turf War as his Derby jockey, and that is a HUGE detriment to Denis of Cork with whom it would be very hard to think of a better jockey/horse fit for his style.

Interesting that Haskin Lists CV and Monba 1 and 2... That matches my opinion but neither horse is really above and beyond any others at this stage. Hard to separate anything at this point.

I would like to hear more of who you guys like and don't like, if you don't mind sharing. This is an interesting year for opinions and debate. I already know i'm an idiot!

As far as Borel committing to Turf War I'd say that's more to the detriment of Blackberry Road, who Borel has ridden in four consecutive races.

I wouldn't include Denis of Cork or Visionaire on a Top 10 list now either. (Quick everyone, pencil these two in as your Derby exacta)

I need to see more from both, but that's just my opinion.

IEAH has raised a ton of capital from some wall street bigwigs and absolutely has to spend that cash and get a Derby prospect. I'm sure that this horse was on their radar as a horse they could justify spending big money for especially considering that they did so well with a son of his brother. He has well known connections and is easily marketed to novices they recruited who happen to have tons of cash to burn.

If he retired right now I cant see him standing for more than $7500 in this market. The 100 mares a year for 3 years is not really pertinent at this level. #1 because these types get very little 2nd and 3rd year action because the fear of breeding to a cheap and cold stud and #2 because virtually no one has to pay full fee for stallions that dont have great demand.

Personally I love IEAH and hope that I am lucky enough to be able to sell a horse to them. Why should Sheikh Mo be the only overpayer on the market?

that has turned into a silly thread. Everyone either seems concerned with the pockets of the boys at ieah and there partners or are really jealous. I get the feeling everyone here would probably be happier if he did not work out then if he did. With that being said, they pay 5mm for a derby horse who could very well go favored. What is the ratio of downside to upside. If he wins the derby they are selling to shiek mo for 50m. If he never wins a race again they have 3 to 4 million in stud value. After speaking to Mr. Iavarone today I have a very good understanding of what they did here. Also for reference, he said he bought the piece himself and has not syndicated to any partners. I cant understand how people on this board can doubt guys that have won the types of races they have in such a short period of time. It can only be jealousy. These guys are good for the game and if they can keep just 1 horse out of the hands of the Arabs we are all the better for it....Omar

Favored in a head-to-head off-shore prop against Legacy Thief maybe.

You state you hope they win the derby with the horse so they can sell it to the sheiks for 50 million.... Then your next sentence says they should be commended for keeping the horse away from the aforementioned sheiks. The people on this board are probably just rooting against this horse because of your inane propaganda. There are a lot of people who beleive a derby horse is something that is raised, trained and earned, not bought a few months prior to the race for a huge sum of cash.
