Just a matter of taste, I guess.

I wish him well and hope he has something good lined up (and Vic too, while we're on the subject).
I don't think he called a bad race necessarily, he was just the king of wildly superfluous information. Who cares if it is Lanerie's 43rd win of the meet? Or Borel's 3rd Bashford Manor? Or anything of the sort. Fort Larned turning hand springs? He said some really random things at times.

He also was on the mic incessantly. There's no need for an announcer to get on the mic with 3-4 minutes to post and commentate as the field goes to the gate. I know that's quite a bit more popular with international racing, but those few moments here have always been quiet and I like it that way.

Provided everything remains the same in his UK gig, Johnson always called a full season of racing there as one of the main commentators for the firm Racetech, which provides racecallers to meets there. They spread all over the country each day and aren't assigned one particular track. So all other things being equal, this just means he won't have as much of a crazy schedule fitting the full work in around his CD visits.

Well...looks like Larry is indeed totally out at Monmouth.

I am not a fan of Larry Collmus race calls. I dont hear anything spectacular from him that should merit him calling races for the Breeders Cup, Triple Crown and Churchill downs. Mark Johnson was far better and sad to hear that he is leaving. Tom Durkin and Trevor Denman are still the top announcers in their field.

Denman and Durkin have both lost a step..Have no idea how anyone could prefer Johnson to Collmus. Vic is far better than Johnson as well...Johnson's done enough.

Most underrated I'd say Peter Berry and Dave Rodman. Two very good racecallers.

There's never been anybody to love except Durkin in his prime. Nobody else has ever approached that. "They are who we thought they were."

I couldn't take Johnson's yelling during a race. Everytime Colmus was calling the Derby on NBC you could not hear him because Johnson was yelling in the background.

I was a big fan of Harry Henson @ Hollywood Park back in the day and Dave Johnson was good when he called at Santa Anita.

I also think Vic was good and deserve a shot at a top tier track.

How long ago was it that he was in his prime, 15 or 20 years ago? I would put Trevor up against anyone.

Unfortunately like everything else, this becomes an east coast west coast thing...Denman couldn't sniff Durkin's jock....thus Zenyatta. A useful mare. Denman, a useful caller.
