But I would think that an operation like WinStar would have access to events like the Derby (Oaks). What would it really cost them to give away two moderate tickets? They probably have a box at Keeneland, what would it be to give away 2 seats for a day (with no travel accommodations)?

Hell I would rather have a nice framed picture signed by the jock of Super Saver winning the Derby or Drosselmeyer winning the Classic then a keychain. I guess I just don't value a keychain too much, especially when it's the grand prize of a contest.
To be fair, they actually offer prizes like that several times a year for various contests. As far as fan interaction goes, they really have been far and away the most creative, so a keychain, in light of what everyone else does, is really giving.

Congrats on the naming. Nice use of the sire and dam.

WinStar does give bigger prizes but you've got to be in another level in their fanclub. I have no idea what you've got to pay to get in that, but those people get to name a foal with fancier breeding and get more out of it like a jacket, etc. It also involves additional webcam access of stallions and foaling barn broodmares on the WinStar site. I can't remember what foal was in that other contest, but I was bummed the contest was restricted.

Hopefully that tour would be better than the free ones they give out. I don't know why farms even offer them if they aren't going to take the horses out of their stalls.

I won the "name my daughters contest" and received a percentage of their lifetime earnings through college. So far I'm a few million in the hole.

Mike is a big time insider why would he need Winstar?

Default Winstar Name the Filly Contest

Thanks for all the congrats, etc. I'm at the "freebie" Stablemates level, so I'm really not complaining.

In fact, Winstar has been very generous to us in the past. My daughter won a BC handicapping contest they ran back in 2010, and got 4 box seats for the 2011 BC at CD, one of those gift buckets, and the obligatory tour of the farm. Very nice haul!
