Winstar Name the Filly Contest
I've been off-line for about three weeks due to a computer problem (repaired now). Seems like I managed to win the Winstar Stablemates name the filly contest they conducted recently. Here's Elliot Walden's post about it:
"Merry Christmas Everyone! I hope you have a blessed holiday season! I would also like to thank you all for your wonderful name submissions for Bluegrass Cat x Theregoesmsamerica ’11. It was really tough to pick a winner but in the end I decided on ‘Redwhitenbluegrass.’ Thank you so much Michael Napolitano for this great name! Once the Jockey Club has approved the name, Michael will be receiving a nameplate keychain! Happy Holidays everyone!" They informed me that the Jockey Club has already approved the name, so I'll be rooting for this filly big-time down the road. Wish they would have cut me in for a piece of the horse, though! |
Great Name! Congrats on the win but a Keychain is a horrible prize. A small share in the horse would be better.

Bestest redboard ever!
|
Geez, great name Mike! Congrats.
|
Very cool, but I agree that Winstar could do better than a keychain.

Even if you only got a keychain -- it's still cool to be forever connected to her!
Perhaps you can convince them to allow you in for a meet and greet if you're ever at a track she is stabled. |

Congrats, Michael, on winning name (and keychain) |
congrats mike.

Congrats Mike! :)

Congrats on winning the contest, but I agree that has to be one of the worst prizes ever.

WTG Mike, nice name...keychain:zz:..are they going to invite you for her maiden win picture?..does the keychain have a set of keys to a new Caddy?:)
Good work Mike.. |
I'm kind of surprised Winstar didn't just hand over the entire breeding operation to you for picking a name. What were they thinking?

I guess they could do more, but what does everyone have in mind? |

A trip to Kentucky that has something to do with Keenland or Churchill and the farm. No all inclusive, but a pair of tickets to the Derby. Arrange some sort of VIP day at the winner's home or choice of tracks. 1% of the actual horse. At the worst give away a WinStar swag bag with a Jacket, some shirts, a hat and maybe some sort of framed picture of the named horse and of course the key chain. |
Don't you know what kind of keyring they're giving out???? It's almost certainly the coveted Quillin Halter Nameplate Keychain!!!
![]() Yes, they're only $13.95, but it's still a VERY enviable prize.... Not as desirable as a Quillin Halter Nameplate Belt, but still a must-have accessory in the Bluegrass... ![]() |
I don't think you're being very realistic about this. I guess a bag with some stuff would have been better but everything else and you're talking like 1000's of dollars.

But I would think that an operation like WinStar would have access to events like the Derby (Oaks). What would it really cost them to give away two moderate tickets? They probably have a box at Keeneland, what would it be to give away 2 seats for a day (with no travel accommodations)? Hell I would rather have a nice framed picture signed by the jock of Super Saver winning the Derby or Drosselmeyer winning the Classic then a keychain. I guess I just don't value a keychain too much, especially when it's the grand prize of a contest. |

Probably a framed photo of one of their stallions, even a horse shoe that was once worn by one of their stallions.. No matter what it is.. it would be better than a keychain.. Why bother holding a contest with a prize that could be won in an arcade claw game? It just seems ridiculous.. |
Byk gives away better prizes for the race of the day contest. It doesn't take much imagination to come up with something.
