The two Cinderella horses, 14-seed Citation and 14-seed Bold Ruler have both scored 2nd round wins. Citation looks to pull off another massive upset when he takes on Cigar in round #3.

Personal Ensign is the last survivor of the horses to race in the 80's ... Spectacular Bid, Easy Goer, Sunday Silence, John Henry, Alysheba, etc have all fallen.
......as great as she was i dont see her beating any of these.

it's the facebook generation...
the grey ghost was incredibly popular in his day. he stood out in the days of black and white television.
but, popular now doesn't exactly mean talented. how else can you explain paris hilton and snookie?

Cigar won by 2 votes I read.

Zenyatta wins the whole thing in hand. I would like to know the % of voters of male vs female, because from what I have seen it is like 75%/25% in the females favor.

Rachel could pull it off. The announcement of her foal's name has to be worth a few votes.

I will post this in her seed, it is by far my favorite horse racing video, I'm going to watch it again now for the probalby 12th time and it will no doubt give me goosebumps again.

I hope it comes down to Zenyatta VS Man O' War so I can vote for Zenyatta.

i don't know that she'll get much of a boost because of 'jess's dream'. seems anti-climactic to me.

They had so many people suggest the name that they picked it out of a bowl. I figured they'd want something a little more unique.

yeah, probably not a great name for a young male, albeit a horse.

How completely, utterly, ridiculously sad.

If young horse racing fans can't appreciate Dr. Fager - especially with YouTube availability of his races - this sport is doomed.

Jess's Dream sounds like a filly. A little girl named Jessica had a foal named after her.

I wonder if, when they sell Rachel's full sister Samantha Nicole, whether the new owner will change the name. Sorry, but it doesn't trip off the tongue as much. I'm sure it was named after a kid, but I wouldn't keep it. It's not bad luck to do that, is it? Like renaming a boat?

yeah, it sounds like a filly name to me, too. that was the first thing that struck me, that it's not a masculine sounding name at all.
some think renaming a horse is bad luck. but it happens, bodemeister for instance.

Do you mean Paynter? I know he was renamed. MC's Dream or something.

Here are the final 8.

Quote:
1. Secretariat
2. Cigar

1. Zenyatta
3. Affirmed

1. Ruffian
14. Bold Ruler

1. Man O' War
2. Seattle Slew

Secretariat: Unquestionably a legit top 8 all-time caliber horse.

Cigar: Arguably the best dirt horse of the 90's -- in the mix with horses like Skip Away and Holy Bull. Not even close to top 8 all-time.

Zenyatta: Basically, a joke.

Affirmed: He is in the mix of being rated as a top 8 all-time horse. He was an all-time great 2yo, 3yo, and 4yo who went off-form near the end of the summer of his 3yo season and struggled for several races. Dr. Allday and Slewis both claimed to me on the Internet that he was treated with Sublimaze and subsquently became a killer 4yo.

Ruffian: Another filly who achieved equine Saint-hood. She's one of the best 2yo filly sprinters of all-time, and her Comely win was awesome at 7fs. She has absolutely no business on this list. Her route races simply were very good for a 3yo filly, but nothing special overall.

Bold Ruler: Was about as good a sprinter/miler as any horse in history. Great performer -- but absolutely not a top 8 all-time horse. He's here because of who he sired.

Man O' War: Another one who was given Sainthood. His campaign was a great target for the sharpest racing minds of his day. Anyone who thinks he's a top 8 all-time horse hasn't spent any time studying.

Seattle Slew: Great horse? Yes. Top 8 all-time? Hell no.

Since it was supposed to be about popularity and fashion ... I can't disagree with anything.

However, who would I rate the best human runner of all-time?

Obviously her ...
