sorry, i disagree. lady who works for me is constantly telling me about the latest uproar between family members on facebook...or a friend who tangled with the woman who works for the florist-she posted something snide on f/b-and a catfight will ensue.
and yet, not once have i ever mentioned to her a thing about derby trail. no one in my family on it with me, i don't report every day the latest happenings at home, or at work. who here knows what my kids are up to right now? but on f/b, i would be expected to constantly update all that bs...i don't care what anyone's status might be.
it's why i come here, to escape that tedium and engage in discussion, both light-hearted and otherwise...to talk about horses and issues, not about me or mine.

Here is a sampling of my recent facebook posts ... I've graduated from posting fast-food reviews to now posting snippits of the few memorable conversations I've had recently.

"France sounds nice. I'd like to go to the top of the Eiffel Tower. See Notre Dame Cathedral, the Arc de Triomphe and Napoleon's Tomb. Take strolls on the Left Bank and dine on the Champs Elysees"

To which I replied Left Bank was a great performer when he was right. Champs Elysees, sh!t, Hasili was a great broodmare. Yeah, I'd like to see an Arc anyway, great race.

Me: "This is the worst investment idea I've heard since the last time my brother Dave proposed we go in together on an MMA themed bar with an octogon cage inside of it. Even the Nigerian Scammers would think this is bullshit!"

I always thought Warren Sapp was by far the best player on that great Miami Hurricane defense that couldn't beat Nebraska. So did everyone, Sapp actually got a few Heisman votes.

But, you knew Ray Lewis was going to be a great pro when you heard him proudly boasting about how he only wore two pairs of jeans his entire time at the University of Miami.

If your proudest boast coming out of college is that you only wore 2 pairs of pants your entire time as a star at a university like that one -- it's really no surprise he is the greatest defensive player in the NFL I've ever watched play. That is the kind of crazy thing you'd expect to hear from someone who is undersized, but truly great and was getting better all the time and is still a factor even though he's ancient now.

Sadly, the twitter account for Ray Lewis is run by a PR guy who just posts about charity events. Could you see Ray Lewis in front of a keyboard texting whacked out stuff and making himself look like a complete moron like a lot of these athletes do?

Yeah, Ed Reed came afterwards. He was at Miami from '98 to '01

Ray Lewis was at Miami from '93 to '96. Ray Lewis was on the dominant Super Bowl winning defense of the Ravens in 2000 when Reed was still in college.

Ray Lewis is an old surly Mofo. He might have about 8 super bowl rings if the Ravens had a good offense. They even won games with Kyle Boller.

Rod Woodson who actually played safety on that Raven super bowl team was a better player than Ed Reed.

The Ravens D that year was so fun to watch. It's the only defense I've ever seen where 3rd and inches for an offense seemed like 3rd and 6. They were almost impossible to run on in situations where the run was likely.

I've said that I've ever seen.

I was 4-year-old when the '85 Bears dominated.

The 2000 Ravens could be passed on at times, and didn't have the greatest pass rush to say the least. Maybe not the best complete defensive unit in NFL history.

However, they played a 4-3 with Sam Adams and Tony Sirragussa protecting the middle for a dead of his prime Ray Lewis.

It was impossible to run on them when the run was expected. Best run defense I've ever seen BY FAR! That team went like 5 straight regular season games without a touchdown ... and they still won a Super Bowl with first Tony Banks and eventually Trent Dilfer playing QB.

He was washed up by the time he came off of the bench and won a Super Bowl.

The Ravens toughest test in the playoffs was when they beat the division champion Titans 24-10.

Dilfer and Banks combined to go 5-for-17 passing with 0 TD's and 3 sacks. The Ravens running game managed only 49 combined yards rushing. They had just 6 first downs the entire game.

Yet, they won 24-10 thanks to a blocked field goal returned for a TD and a Ray Lewis 50 yard INT for a TD on a play where he basically ripped the ball right out of Eddie George's hands.

Great memories. Indian Charlie knows how big of a fan I was of the 2000 Ravens all season long. That was one of the last nice future wagers I've cashed on sports betting.

I disagree, I do not think that offensive teams and coaches changed their offensive approach in a game because of Rod Woodson. The guy was great but Reed will alter the entire approach to a game, not just on a play by play basis.

Woodson was pretty old when he played for the Ravens. He was a great Pittsburgh Steeler player.

Ed Reed is certainly a great player...but he's a far bigger menace against the pass. For a coach like Belichick, who has a pass heavy team that constantly throws the ball, he's got to fret over Ed Reed way more than your coach of a balanced offensive team.

Yeah, but wasn't Woodson a great Pittsburgh player as a cornerback? His post-1996 career was entirely different than the first several seasons of his career. He was an awesome cover, probably even better than he was a safety. IMO.
