SILVER CHARM accomplished the most on that list and is a gray.By the way prior to POTN? Didn't know he had such an impact on racing.

I just try to do the best I can by my mares. The Gulch line really fits this mare well so my choices are Gulch, Thunder Gulch, Point Given, Scrimshaw, The Cliffs Edge, Kipling. I went the cheaper route with Scimshaw last year and so far am pleased with the yearling. I got a pretty good deal with Point Given so I took the shot.

Perhaps his first crop of runners that were sired after his first runners came around will be improved.
I remember going into the BC, he was considered somewhat invincible that week. After losing to Johannesburg he was rushed into a Restricted Cal stk a week later and lost to Yonagushka I believe it was. Not one of Baffert's smartest moves but he was brilliant up until that point, he never seemed quite the same after that.

Byk had really touted Repent to me in that race.. & I liked Johannesburg and thought Officer was a given to hit the board. So I bet a 3 horse TRIFECTA box... when all the other races that day I was betting 3 horse EXACTA boxes. I kept that ticket in my wallet for a LONG time to remind myself not to be too greedy..

I was not too smart on this one, for some reason I neglected Johannesburg because I wasn't convinced he could handle the dirt. Duh...By Hennessy...I think I took Simphonic that day totally expecting Officer to win as he did in the Champagne. Yeah Repent ran a heck of a race and Officer was shown who the General really was, I think that was the quote from Kinane after he won.

Point Given doesn't have "crappy confirmation" (and didn't have a slow turn of foot, although many of his offspring do). He's just a big heavy horse who probably needs to have his mares carefully chosen for him--which presumably the poster going to him has done.

And your opinions on "confirmation" would carry more weight if you could spell the word.

Or maybe not.

Point Given has been a brutal sire.

He's basically had two good horses in Go Between and Sealy Hill ... both of which couldn't outrun a goat on dirt and were basically poly/turfers ... and not exactly great poly/turf types at that.

At least Real Quiet's two good horses (Midnight Lute and Pussycat Doll) were monsters .. but with that said .. he's still probably overpriced even standing for peanuts in Pennsylvania.

Wonder Lady Anne L?

She had a scruffy looking Giant's Causeway go through the ring today or yesterday.

That's her - she won the CCA Oaks or some such race, no?

Real Quiet and Cat Thief are both standing in PA now, but it gets better - coming in 2010...MONBA!!!!

Probably sarcastically ... as I thought Pine Island was a wildly overrated slug.

Yeah, I knew you never liked Pine Island.

I used to rip on WLA though whenever you brought her up and you defended her for all her honor. That probably should have tipped me off.

Very interesting comments about Point Given. I didnt realize there were so many talented breeders on here. I guess my question would then be if your mare matched the best to the Gulch line who would you send her to?

Why, Giant's Causeway, of course.
