totally agree, and headlines like that is what drives the price down on a horse like nicanor, NOT his resume.

** you would think they would push the whole Battle Of Hasting and the $5M bonus as a headline

That bonus is a joke cause the BC Turf is the last leg of it.

Right, because Battle of Hastings would need a bus ticket to get 12 furlongs.

In other words, turn them onto the horse that has no shot?

Were you there for the Colonial Turf Cup? The attendance was depressing. I really hope they pull this track together and resolve their wagering issues. Getting higher purses is probably never going to happen though..

More because you have to go back to 1989 to find an American based 3yo that has actually won the race. In the rare instance that a foreign horse doesn't win the BC Turf it is usually an older American horse, not a 3yo.

you talking about the whole ADW thing with twinspires?
i thought the attendence was kinda solid, granted you wouldn't find me there on a thursday night, but ALL the box seats and dinning room seats were sold out.
i was there for the turf cup, actually only race i came outside to watch. they kinda dropped the ball though, i remember there being ZERO race call, NOTHING. and after the race the odds board was on the fritz, then there was an inquiry, it was all over the place

bunch of friends and i are going for "derby experience", gonna be chilling on the hill. Absoultely the worst angle to watch a race from (turn 1 past the finish line), but they say they're gonna have tellers and tvs so it should make up for it. PLUS, the $20 ticket allows you to BYOB, and even though its a LONG ride back to nova, its worth it

you going?

Good betting race, a few decent alternatives to the 2 favorites (Hastings & Nicanor), who are both very vulnerable.

I put the number of people who decide to attend this race for the reason that Nicanor and or Battle of Hastings is in here at about 11. Neither horse is even close to marketable from the standpoint of getting fans to come out and not go to a barbecue, the ocean or stay home and cut the lawn. The track would have been better off giving away a free cooler than inventing a headline that just isnt going to drive attendance.

Nice little race to bet on if you dont like the 2 horses who will be in the 2/1 range.

They did an attendance and handle comparision to last year and the difference was strong. Handle was expected to be down, with the decrease across the board in June nationwide and the Twinspires issue, but the attendance figures were surprising. I guess no one likes the heat as much as I do. This was the first time I'd been in the Turf Club, and I'm not a fan of spending my time indoors, but they do have a really pretty set up in there, good food and the balconies to watch the races from are a nice additon. I went this past Friday night and the attendance was decent.

They really need a new odds board.

I'd never miss a chance to see Barbaro's full brother Nicanor.

I think this isn't as obvious as it appears. BoH got a rail run but he was only on the rail from midturn on. To that point, he had been 3 wide on the 1st turn, and widest, no cover, on the backstretch (one of the Baze's was up, after all). In other words, a worse trip than SS. I believe the setup favored those with the pace that day and BoH made a very strong move to get the lead and then held on gamely. SS came back but Lime Rickey, the only other horse to run off the pace, was never a threat in the lane.

Now, I think the winner will probably come out of the Colonial Cup. The only 'other' horse that has a shot is Hold Me Back, assuming he takes to the turf.

I realize that SS looks like a nice trip betback. However, he almost certainly will not get the same trip. Obviously, he'll be able to stalk, in fact, he'll have to, as there's enough pace in the race where he shouldn't be able to sniff the front. There should be plenty of pace action/moves in the race and I suspect the VD will be won by an off the pacer. The race should set up well for Lime Rickey, Hold Me Back, and, yes, Battle of Hastings.

well you must be down near richmond, b/c you had 2 chances to see him romp at wonderful delaware park

on turf club day, we got there early and didn't think it would be a problem to get box seats, wrong, sold out an hour before the 1st race (good for them, bad for me), ended up getting the $3 "upgrade" tickets, which essentially don't upgrade you to anything since its still first come first serve seating on the 3rd floor. Ended up working out well, found a table by the bar, and avoided the awful heat all day. where are you sitting this weekend?

DAVE-----where are you sitting this weekend?

Guys I think your nuts if you're going to bet against Nicanor, not even Secretariat had a victory so dominating!

Trainer Michael Matz entered Nicanor in a maiden race at Delaware Park on May 13, where he picked up his first win in dominant fashion -- by more than 15 furlongs.

Anyone who doesn't think Nicanor is going to get bet very hard is kidding themselves.

Who thinks he isn't going to be bet very hard? This race is unbettable in my opinion. Nicanor will be bet hard and is the only horse in this field that might not be a total pig. That Colonial Turf Cup was a bunch of mediocre horses giving uninspired performances. Plus when you look at Nicanor's pace figures there is no real reason to think anyone can push him harder than he pushed himself in his last two races.

Have not secured seats as yet. Will likely buy GA and wander around though considering the "Chill on the Hill" as a possiblity. Not sure if I am going solo or with a group. Do you know if the umbrella tables are still available and worth $200?

I dont know man.. I mean he should be like the 6th choice.. but I'm sure will go off higher. Just dont know if people will bet him as hard in a G2 as they did in Gulfstream in a maiden. I dont know if gamblers are that stupid, and do you really expect a ton of new fans running to the track to put $2 on Barbaro's brother?

I could see him being the 4th choice instead of the 2nd choice (but then again ya never know). He SHOULD be like 15-1 or 20-1 but I wouldnt be surprised if he's 7-1 or 8-1, instead of 5/2.
