don't forget her prior two races where on dirt, and all her training has been at Santa Anita.

its not automatic when they cross over to the Hollywood cushion that the form follows, especially on the first try.

or she may not be the same now. time will tell.

Not to mention handle a dramatic surface switch from dirt to synthetic.
She also won the stake at Santa Anita against winners. I used the debut race to say that in my eyes, she has proven she can run well fresh, how how much she should win by. In my opinion, I didn't see the same pureness in her running that I did in her two races last year. But again, I'm not saying that she ran a disappointing race but only that the results didn't meet the expectations that I had for her. Judging by the responses in this thread, I don't think I'm alone. I don't think many people expect 2/5 shots to be all out to nose out 25/1 shot either. But hey, maybe yesterday was exactly what you expected so you are thrilled. I don't know.

Racing hasn't stopped because of Big Brown....thank God.
I mentioned her last week before she ran to let everyone know. She has always been on my radar for a comeback race and I was glad to see she won even by a nose.. Hope she stays sound and can show us what she is capable of.

Which is exactly what I said. I'm sure she met the expectations of some. But just not mine. It's no different than Michael Jordan going out and scoring 50 and saying he's disappointed in his game because he went 6-12 from the line. A good performance can be disappointing to someone if that someone had higher expectations than just seeing a good performance.

What does Webster's say about "perspective"?

From King Glorious's:

perspective: condescending, myopic point of view that fails to take into account a myriad of immeasurable factors influencing overt phenomena, often resulting in extremes in judgment.

I was not impressed at all and that spin that Headley threw out there was laughable, his barn comes out full throttle, not this need a race junk. She would get drowned right now by Zenyetta.

Funny how in this thread, several people said they were either disappointed or otherwise unimpressed yet you chose to pick me out of the lineup to have issue with. But I'm the condescending member of this forum. Yeah, let's go with that. Appreciate you taking the time to reply.

Yes, several people were disappointed in her comeback, but most of those also cited the 14-month layoff as a significant hurdle for her to overcome. You chose to negate that simply because she was precocious enough to win her debut against other maidens, completely ignoring the fact that she had an injury that necessitated surgery and had never set foot on a synthetic surface until her reappearance.

From your posts, you seem to expect a horse, once it's reached a certain level of performance, to maintain its best possible form the rest of its career regardless of circumstance. That's pretty ironic coming from a guy who has Java Gold and King Glorious as the two best horses in the last 20 years, when the former got his azz kicked in an allowance comeback the summer of his 3yo year and the latter got browbeat at 1-9 odds in a minor stakes in his first start around two turns...

What does Webster's say about "progression"?

The whole question from Andy was why there is no buzz on the return of Mag. The reason there is no buzz is cause she ran like a shell of her former self. What is to get excited about? Should we be excited that Brass Hat is running this weekend? Delightful Kiss? Where do we draw the line on horses that were once good (being kind to DK) and no longer are but we still have to have threads about them?

There was no buzz because everyone was ignoring everything else in racing outside of Big Brown and Casino Drive. Not wholly surprising but I think there's a lot more going on and Magnificence's return was a big story regardless of how she ran.

There are various things in racing that have gone unnoticed because of the TC but her less than stellar return was hardly the most significant one of them. Had she come back and run a huge race it would have been all over. Hell, I'm the one who even gave Daaher love last year when I thought he was nothing special but couldn't believe there was no buzz about him.
