Just heard first rumbles of thunder here in Jamaica (Queens). Darkening up and getting breezy, but still dry...

I feel bad for the people who are out there and have to take the LIRR home. It used to be that the final train left 30 minutes after the 9th race, but now they leave at 6:01 on weekdays and 6:13 on weekends, so today people will have to wait almost an hour an a half for a train to leave that no patrons will enter in the final 45 minutes or more. Plus, the conductors take their sweet time leaving the track and often don't even open the doors until ten minutes or so before six.....leaving people out in the heat. I have pretty much stopped going because of this. The only alternative, if you don't have a ride, is to take the 3:47 train home and miss the final three races.

NYRA has pleaded with LIRR to stop this but they simply don't give a sh1t.

If they haven't already bought a ticket, they could walk to Queens Village and take the train from there, but your point is well taken.

I've stopped going to Belmont because (a.) it's a bitch to get out there and (b.) that ride home never seems to be a happy one.

Watching the NBC radar loop...looks like we're in for another fun afternoon boys and girls...cells popping up quickly now over Jersey and Westchester Cty.

I agree Joey....I walk to and from Queens Villiage fairly frequently but it's over a mile, and many of the patrons are somewhat elderly, it's hot as hell, and a lot of people don't know to do this or where it is. The much simpler solution would be for LIRR to stop screwing people and simply leave 30 minutes after the final race as they were doing for over 15 years.

The amazing thing is that there isn't really a hint of a thunderstorm in NYC.

Same in Jamaica... Thunder, poured for 10mins, now sun is back out.

May end up just being a quick downpour.

I haven't been going because quite frankly, the cards/features have sucked.

By the way, NJTransit has 10 trains a day to Monmouth from Manhattan.

Every time I take one of those trains (granted it's only been a few times), it's way worse than the LIRR. Each time I've gone, we've been stuck on the way back about a mile outside the track for like, ever. Also, one time I had to get off at Hoboken and wait an hour for a Penn Station train even though the schedule said non-stop to Penn Station. All of that has soured me from going out to Monmouth again.

I swear, if these tracks are wondering how to get more people out to the track, they might want to examine the morons in transportation..

I've thought the same. I think NY has a pretty strong population of race-goers and it would certainly benefit all 3 tracks if there was a better way to get between the three. I'm just unsure how cost effective it would be or even if Amtrack etc would be willing to work with them.
