Belmont - weather for today

I understand that their are some thunderstorms in the area. What are the chances that the turf course will see enough rain for the races to be taken off of the turf?

Mortimer 06-28-2007 08:54 AM

Hard to say ,Whod.

This is where your having made friends with anyone in New York who is a track buff would pay off mighty well right about now.

Friends of mine say stay on the turf for now.

Changes are not up yet but I know last evening we had some of the most torrential thunderstorms EVER in the Queens Nassau area. I got a call from a co worker that said most of the athletic offices and my training room are under water right now! 6 inches of water on lower level of arena. And we are only 8 minutes from Belmont.

Nice time to be on vacation!;)

Right now it's 72 out and it's expected to go back up to 90's with late day thunderstorms again. What is this Calder Race Track weather?

Will be GREAT in the 70's for Fridays TWILIGHT Racing (half price beer) and Saturdays Mother Goose/Suburban at Belmont this weekend though. Can't wait!:D

Belmont website lists the dirt as GOOD and the turf as GOOD.

Is it New York that has the rule if a race comes off the turf after the pick 6 has started it becomes an automatic win?

Alan07 06-28-2007 09:51 AM

yes

I drove home from work in that sh!t last night around 9. Not much fun. Most of the Hutch was under water...

Linny 06-28-2007 09:56 AM

Albany area got hit with storms last night around 6. Looks like some storms may his Queens today. I hope they stay on grass, I like a few of them.

Beware, sometimes when storms are predicted NYRA will rush the card a bit. This can wreak havok on those hoping to get down on a particular race only to find that it was run 20 minutes ahead of schedule.

blackthroatedwind 06-28-2007 10:41 AM

There's a limit to how much, however, a card can be rushed at Belmont, and while I agree that Aqueduct can, and has been rushed as much as Linny suggests, it's hard for Belmont to be rushed that severely.

Linny 06-28-2007 10:52 AM

I've seen AQU get in 9 races by 3:15. BEL doesn't go as fast but I've seen days when I was looking to play the 7th and turned on the TV when it should have been 10MTP only to see them loading the 8th! And trust me, I KNOW what the usual post times are!:p

I'm confused, are you somehow suggesting Belmont could speed the card up over a half an hour?

Not possible.

Linny 06-28-2007 11:24 AM

If I'm not mistaken they squeezed the races back by 5 minutes after the threat of storms was apparent. Races 3 and on were run at 25 minute intervals. The last race was run in a tremendous downpour but dammit they stayed on the grass all day.

Linny 06-28-2007 01:21 PM

Jan just said that they are pushing the card. Last race scheduled for 4:23. That's really moving!

Wow. I guess you were really right.

Of course, in this case we need to consider the source.

Linny 06-28-2007 01:27 PM

She did say it on the simo, not just to me.;) Jan and I only chat about hats.

Linny 06-28-2007 01:44 PM

Race 6 3:14
Race 7 3:37
Race 8 4:00
Race 9 4:23

As per the NYRA

Can I take the over?

They will be lucky to get this fifth race off within two minutes of its scheduled post of 2:51.

Linny 06-28-2007 02:06 PM

I never said that they would make it but it appears that they will try.;)
