Why NOT run her, what else is there at a distance for a while in that division? The Acorn at a mile around one turn probably is not her best spot, though she would win anyways.

Take a shot, its getting tiresome all these reason not to run.

Fair enough drugs, I always thought she was good. My derby post gave her alot of credit as a runner. But noone had any faith in her ability till now against the boys. From a betting stand point, I'll roll my cash on her too. She is very talented.

I don't see what he was getting at with posting that thread either. It was late February, and I said there was no shot of R2R winning the Derby, because it was obvious she wouldn't run in the Derby.

Besides her, the 3-year-old filly division looked horrendous, so you obviously point for the Oaks with a filly who didn't break her maiden until her 3yo season.

Saying "I had no faith in her" ---That's not true at all.

In fact, on another board, I said she'd win the Kentucky Oaks after her January maiden win this year.......however, I don't want to turn this thread into another 'DrugS thinks he's God' thread...contrary to how it really may appear, I haven't started a self promotion campaign lately. I'm not running for anything, nor trying to sell anything to anyone.

You started the thread with the question: "Can a Filly win the Derby tis year???"

Had I felt there was any chance she'd be in the gate on Derby day, I'd have answered differently.

DrugS for President....of Pimlico Race Course because you could probably clean up the place properly, slots or no slots. Sheer force of will m'friend.

Say the big 3 go and so does she and she takes it. It does bring up a good point to ask 'now what' because do you take the 3yo filly gems or try a G1 at a shorter distance against the boys? About that reference to Silverbulletday, I still can't get over how it may or may not've affected Charismatic. My memory's a little funky since it's been 8 years (yikes) but didn't she spur the pace? I just remember watching the stretch, thinking something's not right with Charismatic and that he looks like he could go faster but isn't and then Chris Antley jumping off. He probably would've hurt himself eventually anyway in the near future but I had bad feeling all through the backstretch on that one and I remember grumbling about Baffert for some reason in the middle of the race. Could be 8 year fogfest going on in the ol' noggen so forgive me.

Silverbulletday did set the pace in the Belmont.....23 3/5ths and 47 3/5ths are the exact fractions...as I felt compelled to look it up.

As far as what next if Rags to Riches wins the Belmont Stakes....it would depend on a lot of different things...and it's too early to speculate.

If there is a horse in the land that is better bred to thrive in a 12 furlong dirt race, I don't know who it is. That's what will make it very tempting to run in a race like the Belmont Stakes for those connections....regardless of how many of the "big 3" show up.

The bottom line is that at this point winning the Mother Goose is not that big a deal and she can always come back in the CCA Oaks and/or Alabama after the Belmont.

I hope she runs, as it adds to the luster of the race, and if DrugS thinks she can win that's good enough for me. Personally I'm reticent but she's a better horse than My Flag and I lost a few bucks on her in the 1996 Belmont.

i hope she runs, but why she can't run if street sense, curlin and hard spun go, i dont know...
so, i guess i'd like to see all four, as i don't want to 'wish' one of the boys out just so she'll show.

Todd is gasping for air, the owners just want a win, now they got a chance. Save her for where she belongs. She is a lady, not a stud.

She will lose the Belmont if she enters, and may not ever recover after it. Filly's are not colts, and they learn to lose after a hard battle they don't win.

where do you get your information? and how does it makes sense to say that they 'got a chance' but to 'save her for where she belongs'??? if she doesn't belong, how have they got a chance?
how could she not ever recover? that's ridiculous!

oh, and i guess someone forgot to tell ouija board she was never supposed to win again, after those hard-fought but losing battles vs colts. gimmeabreak!!

Maybe Cannon shell can tell ya about this. Filly's are tough to bring back after a hard fight, and loose. maybe you need to train a few, or ride some.

oh, but seriously, senor b may have a point. i mean, look at genuine risk for example...she lost the wood, came in third behind plugged nickel--certainly cost her next out.
oh, wait... she won the derby next out. maybe that tough derby is what cost her the preakness--or was it that the preakness cost her the belmont?
