Street Sense not out of Belmont yet!

I saw that article earlier. It would be interesting if the big three come back. I'd be quite surprised though. Also it might be a case of be careful what you wish for. Do we want a big field..which would be the case(as many as 12 I've heard) if one or two of the big three dont' show....or......do we want a smaller field with the big three being in...Am I making any sense?
Personally I would love to see a rematch....So does NYRA.

Nobody is going to watch it if the big 3 don't come back.

Having a small field, but with the big 3, would be the best thing to happen as long as the horses all come out of the Preakness okay. I would love it as well.

Would also be interesting....Why not? She'd make a good showing.

I would point her to the Alabama, why go for the Belmont?

Maybe, but why ruin her doing it. Shugs horse was never the same horse after that race. She ran 3rd, but never ran that good after. This seems like a bad choice to me.

I disagree.

Shug's horse (My Flag) won the Grade 1 Coaching Club American Oaks by open lengths in her next start after the Belmont. She also won the Grade 1 Gazelle three starts after her 3rd place finish in the Belmont.

As far as from a speed figure standpoint, My Flag ran a 100 Beyer in her 3rd place finish in the Belmont Stakes. She ran five more times that year, and her figures were 102, 97, 98, 103, and 100.

I wouldn't call that ruined.....but, I did have to actually go back and look her up to remember everything that happened for sure.

I just got Smart Strike confused with another Ontario bred horse who came from Woodbine (Langfuhr) in another post earlier today....I'm slipping a little with my memory from these mid-90's horses.

I like the idea of the coaching club, and the Alabama for RTR. They are just scrambling around now for a triple crown race. Better for her I think.

Not the horse, the connections failures. It is them, not her.

Do you think they ever consider this move if they had any success with their prior horse.

The Indomitable DrugS 05-22-2007 02:35 PM

She belongs in the race and can very much win it.

I don't buy that it will have a negative effect on her career or might ruin her.

It's true she doesn't gain all that much from a commercial value standpoint, because shes a filly, but....I have a feeling she runs regardless of who elses goes.

If she wins--I really hope the press doesn't get carried away with the Pletcher angle and make this out to be some great training job.

lemoncrush 05-22-2007 02:37 PM

Although anything is possible, I don't see anyone in the 3-yo filly division touching RTR, so why not try the Belmont?

She has nothing left to prove against her class. It makes more sense to me for her to face 3-yo boys in the Belmont going 1-1/2 now when she clearly can get the distance, and then take on older fillies and mares later this fall.

As far as the big 3, I would welcome all 3 back if it didn't scare away RTR and colts who should be formidable going 1-1/2 like Sightseeing, Great Hunter and Tiago.

Are you part owner

She was put on the bench in Cal. with the Boys, on the bench for the Derby, but now she belongs. Yea, because they are out of ammo, and win at any cost.
OK
