How does it matter? The turnstyle tally is an old method to determine anything. While its good that people come to the track, it wont even come close to the off track betting revenue.

Pretty obvious they've been misreporting the attendance numbers all meet, so whatever the final number is it's meaningless.

OTO, it is not that it is wrong to ask. It is that many misuse attendance figures to argue the sport is dying. In addition to what Ateam pointed out (which is true of all professional sports), attendance is not what counts in horse racing, handle is what counts.

Default if many

are misusing attendence figures to back up there play as to the sport dying
then this meet i would think [if given proper figures] would wash those naysayers down the drian coerrect/
900 to a million for this meet would in my eyes tell me the sport still has some omph left in it

i think you'd be better served looking at handle, not attendance. too many other ways to gamble-attendance isn't as important.

Do people realize people follow this sport for more reasons then gambling? When I go to a big race I meet gamblers, photographers, party people, pretty horsey people, families, picnicers... How does " handle" take into account anything other then gamblers?

Who knows. Who cares?

Reported attendance is a Shell Game at this meet, and at some other tracks, as well.

Because attendance numbers are fake. Everywhere. All the time. They are useless.

I have to think the handle is what keeps the sport in business.
