Default Yet ANOTHER Jump Start wins

I touted this sire the goods earlier this year.
Whats that 20 winners so far on a book that included few if any big name mares?
Hes sure as hell gonna get the mares this year!!!

He was the best deal to be had for an incoming freshman stallion in some time. He originally retired at 5k but could be had for 3.5k his first year. He was oversubscribed at that price and has steadily went up.

He's a hell of a sexy piece of flesh in person other than that one scary ankle.

He was obviously talented and proved it on the track before the injury...

And pedigree wise, he's got everything going for him. He hails to the great Claiborne family and bluehen Lea Lane who is responsible for such standouts as Southern Halo, Leallah, Miswaki, Eternity Star, ect.

The family can produce a top stallion...

And deservedly so... you know, at this point, certain parellels to how Storm Cat started off for the same connections. I'll tell you whats even better, most the foals I saw by him looked like they would be better 3yo's. The fact they're doing good at 2 is that much more reassuring about his future and theirs.

It will all just be staving off the inevitable at Overbrook!

he retired due to some serious injuries. he is crossed to Secretariat, which is not a good idea although crossing Secretariat seems to be in vogue now. still, if one avoids any more Secretariats in a mating he holds some appeal.

I his size probably played a factor in it as well. I believe the same thing with most the Unbridled's... big horses who may be fast and talented at 2, doesnt mean they should be rushed just because they "can".

You know, my mare Natalie Beach is inbred to Somethingroyal 5sx3d. I was thinking of crossing her back over for another RF to Maria's Mon to pick up more High Voltage, instead of going for another Somethingroyal.

Balletto, Do you go to any of the two-year old sales in Florida? If you go to any of the sales in February and March, it gives you a good idea of who the hot new sire may be. I knew that Orientate would have a good year because his 2 year olds looked so good at the sales. By the same token, practically all the babies by Budha did not look very good. Granted the sample is not that big, but if you get to watch 10-15 horses work who are by the same sire, that gives you a decent sample. With Orientate, I must have watched at least 15 of his 2 year olds work at the sales in February and March and at least half of them could really run. With some of the other sires, it was more like 10%.

I've never been to a 2yo sale. Funny enough though, I go through the cats for my brother and father and talked up a Monarchos filly in one of the Florida sales. They looked at her, didnt like her and passed. She RNA'd. Two months later, she was the stakes winner Fifth Avenue.

Honestly, my relationship to the sport has always been through my father until very recently. And I focus more on broodmares although I do have a share with my brother in a Meadowlake we are thinking of pinhooking as a two year old.

Shining Forever would make for an intriguing mating with Jump Start.

Brings in both Somethingroyal and High Voltage... but isnt that a mare? She's/He's listed as such on pedigreequery.

I remember seeing the weanling photos of Orientate's foals in Blood Horse and absolutely loving them, I like stallions that stamp themselves into the foal, to me they all seemed to have great laid back shoulders, well set necks and substantial hips, almost more like Quarter Horse foals.

From what I heard, he was bred to excellent mares, so that may have been a big part of his success.

I look for Orientate to have a big year next year as well. I am waiting on his best colt that I have seen to start, and for his best filly to come back. I knew that Allude had gotten hurt when she ran horribly in the stretch in her last start. She still hasn't worked, and I hope that she makes it back to the track. I also like Asmussen's filly Successful Outlook. She just ran a solid third in a stakes race and has some nice wins. Overall, his babies are doing very well.

It's actually the cannon bone above the ankle, but I believe his ankle is fused for support. When you look close you can see where the injury occurred; a displaced condylar fracture just above the fetlock joint. It resembles Saratoga Six's (may he rest in peace), but actually a lot better looking.

Jump Start is literally the kindest stallion I've ever been around, and one of the largest. He'll get you if you're not paying attention simply because he can, but you can play with him without ever worrying that he'll lay his ears back and bite you from pure spite. I'm happy Jump Start is doing so well, really.

I remember when he broke down - the vet said that Jump Start only made it because of his very classy demeanor. The colt fortunately had a good temperment - he was stall-bound for months, I believe.

I remember seeing him as a baby at the Spa- he looked like a stallion even then, the spitting image of Storm Cat.

He's been unbelievable .........if only he could get that first stakes winner, though. Still, 20 winners...........and he's gone unnoticed, for the most part. He's done way better than I ever thought he would, certainly as a sire of juveniles.
