It was a shame that when they opened the casino, they would not allow people to go into the Pavillion. It was just space unoccupied for almost 20 yrs

My first time seeing a live race was this card. I still think it was one of Trevor's better calls.

This was the time when the big races on the west coast was the 3rd, 4th or 5th race. A time when simulcasting started to expand.

Yea, I am in Phx and we could only get three socal races per day and basically that was it. That expanded to like 5 in 93'. I dont think it went full card until about 96'.

Other than the triple crown races I am not sure we took bets on any other races from non socal races for about 3-4 years after 92'.

In honor of Hollywood Park closing all the locals in Inglewood have placed their pants half staff.

In some thoughts simulcasting watered down the interest in the sport to just a cheap way to gamble. Before simulcasting, people would take time to go to the paddock, read the form and you can actually hear people cheering. I will miss Friday night racing at Hollywood Park. That was part of my childhood and I always looked forward going to it.

Great call of that race by Vic. He gets his share of grief around here but none of it is due to his race calling. He is one of the best out there in my opinion. Anyone know what is next for him?

Default LAWeekly gloom and doom article

Here's the obligatory "as Hollywood Park goes, so does racing" article.

This guy even wants the Triple Crown changed to not be just for 3 year olds.

yeah, way to soon to sound a death knell for racing.
hollywood isn't closing because the sport is in bad shape. it's closing because of the value of the property.
