How is a man who can't even control what he puts in his own mouth expected to control a government?

Can only hope they have 'Present' as a choice then.

Christie would have been denied joining the military but commander and chief? Step up to the buffet!

Obama and Biden are the first president and vice president where neither served in the military. So what is your point?

I hope Biden fights for the Democrat nomination against Hillary, as I would enjoy that division. I expect Hillary wants a coronation the same way that she was handed the Senate seat in New York from Moynihan.

I mean, why bother running for the House first - she's better than that

Both would have been accepted if they did choose to serve unlike 'Bag of Donuts' Christie. Get it now?

It's a distinction without a difference. Either you served, and it would give you additional insight before becoming commander-in-chief, or you didn't.

Whether the reason is being overweight or having a very high level of an elitist mindset makes no difference.

You realize that the National Guard can be deployed as regular troops at any time, right?

they can be now. it's a different game then bck in the day, when bush got a pass by entering the guard.

i don't think one need be a vet to be president. however, i think if one had served in the military, they might be more prone to think about where they're sending troops before sending them.
our military is a powerful tool. not something to be used lightly, or regarded casually-especially when one knows it's flesh and blood people who will give far more than their commander in chief if the time comes.

And a 500-1 shot can win the Kentucky derby if you get a 19 horse pileup... Suffice to say with the dearth of National Guard units deployed in Vietnam and Daddy having some say it would be a safer bet to bet the 500-1 shot ahead of GWB seeing action in Vietnam.

Much, much different now than "back in the day." After a 4-1/2 year hitch in the USAF, 1964-1968, I got out and joined an ANG unit out of Floyd Bennett Field in NY. We got activated and "deployed" in March, 1970 for......wait for it......the postal strike!

I guess you could have asked William Howard Taft, Grover Cleveland or Teddy Roosevelt...

We had presidents who couldn't control what they took out of their pants as leaders of the government, and one who couldn't control what he put in OTHER PEOPLE'S MOUTHS who led for two terms. Not a Christie supporter, but don't think his weight is any more than fodder for late night comics.
