I was going to put Marino Rivera but is he the best baseball player or the best relief specialist.I had a hard time on how to handle that. Best baseball player of all time in my mind is Babe Ruth because he was so much better then his peers and his stats stand up 80 years later. Look at QB's Montana and Steve Young where they all time greats or Great QB's because of the system they operated in.

The Babe was special cause he pitched and hit. Mariano will go down as the best closer to ever play the game.

I understand what you are saying about the QB's, but right now (system or not) Peyton is making it look easy.

I don't know how one quantifies best player of all time in the playoffs considering that the playoffs used to just be the World Series but Beltran surely is in a class that doesn't take long to call roll. Not just his hitting but defense as well. Of course not even he could overcome the strain of wearing the orange pinstripes.

Except he was on the 2003 user list and as a DH he has a 5% chance of getting into the HOF
