I think he's the real deal, but the way the track is playing certainly didn't hurt. Gutty comeback on the rail.

Was certainly in the right path and was dealing with a foe who tends to idle when encountering the front, but is very tenacious and seems to like a fight.

Pedroza was also the ideal jockey for a rail run. And fortunately left a little in the tank.

BTW I loved Joe Bravo's ride on Little Mike. Would love to know whether the decision to rate was on purpose or just happened.

If you've watched Private Zone's Panamanian races, he was a complete head case, and there is no denying he's talented and that O'Neill's team did a masterful job.

He wears blinkers, but former jockey Rene Douglas (the ownership group's managing partner) literally trims them back almost every time he runs. If you looked close yesterday, it was almost like they weren't there - just the slightest hint of plastic was there.

Makes you think that some of his earlier defeats in the US were partly a product of him not seeing the competition. Once he does, he fights on, and it's phenomenal to see that fight in a horse.

Interesting tid-bit, thanks for sharing it!

As for the Classic horses, a lot of the top contenders will be coming in with solid figures, but if somehow Ron the Greek can recreate that performance, and with most of the field needing an easy lead (with the exception of Game On Dude), he has a shot.

It was Mike Smith riding...and the decision to rate was 100% on purpose. Caught up with Carlo Vaccarezza early in the day and said the plan was to let Joe's Blazing Aaron tire out King Kreesa and let them do the dirty work, sitting off of the speed like they did in the BC Turf. Uncanny how well it played out as they wanted it to...

Rating can't be considered a decision. They had absolutely no choice.

Important element of Smith's handling of Little Mike apparently came from him watching Ramon Dominguez' rein work with the horse (tight on right; loose on left) and mimicking it Saturday.
