Rockport Harbor was euthanized Aug. 2 at New Bolton Center in Kennett Square, Pa., due to complications arising from laminitis.

A 11-year-old son of Unbridled's Song , Rockport Harbor won five of eight career starts, including the Remsen Stakes (gr. II), Nashua Stakes (gr. III), and Essex Handicap (gr. III). Rockport Harbor was represented by progeny that earned in excess of $13 million, including multiple graded-stakes winner May Day Rose and Arlington-Washington Futurity (gr. III) winner Pataky Kid.

The leading sire by progeny earnings in Pennsylvania for 2013, Rockport Harbor most recently stood at Dr. Bill Solomon's Pin Oak Lane Stud in New Freedom, Pa.

Makybe Divas firstborn...

ROSEHILL GARDENS – Friday 26 July 2013

The Stewards inquired into the death of Rockstardom in trainer Mr C Waller’s stables on the afternoon on 26 July 2013, when the necropsy report from the University Veterinary Teaching Hospital, Camden, was received. The Stewards found that the gelding’s death was due to an acute cranial base fracture and subdural haematoma of the brain. Racing NSW Senior Official Veterinarian C Suann reported that this type of injury typically occurs when a horse becomes excitable or fractious, rears and falls over backwards, hitting the back of the skull on the ground or possibly a wall.

Home At Last, 26

Love this quote from the Bloodhorse article:

"A veritable icon at Nuckols Farm, Nuckols described "Homer" as an easygoing horse who was loved by all and who enjoyed the company of his best buddy, Animo de Valeroso ("Animal"), and was once mistaken for Monarchos ("Mo") by a visitor to the farm."

Star German runner and sire Lando dies aged 23

By Martin Stevens 8:26PM 21 AUG 2013

LANDO, one of the best German racehorses of recent times and an important sire, died on Tuesday aged 23.

Excerpt, on the empty stall that had belonged to Kris Royal...

What a nice, little horse to be around – a fun little guy,” LoPresti said. “He never bothered anybody. He tried. It makes you rethink what you do. We got Successful Dan and Wise Dan and I’d give it all up and not even get to run them if I can get that horse back.”

"For LoPresti, it was the first race-day fatality in his training career, which began in 1993."

Wow. I didn't think I could be more sad about KR, but I am now.
