Yeah. Whatever else might be the case, we can always count on a Lezcano collapse in the stretch - and the equally obligatory wrong lead.

I don't understand. What was he supposed to do differently?

he just can't finish and he can't consistently get his horses to change leads. i just don't get why so many think he's so good

It could be that he's won at 18% with a $1.95 ROI in 1,099 rides the last 12 months, the ROI easily best of the New York regulars. He's consistently among the leading money earners at all the premier meets. The guy is a terrific rider by any measure.

The horse saved ground on a slow pace and had absolutely no answer for the much-the-best winner. Jesus with a 7-pound bug couldn't have made that horse run any better than she did.

You know what: stats will probably tell me that Contreras is a significantly better rider than Wilson or (last year) even Da Silva. But Emma is absolutely money in the lane and Da Silva is right behind her. And Contreras is always a defensive play for me. Lezcano looks real good styling with the best horse. But he can't be counted on when it means something. Just my opinion.

I should feel better but the 12 getting nipped still cost me a nice amount. I am all over the wire with nothing to show for it.

So much for that turf speed bias.
