America's oldest living veteran plans to celebrate Memorial Day at his Texas home like he always does: on the porch, smoking a cigar and sipping a cup of coffee stiffened with whiskey.

Richard Arvine Overton, a 107-year-old World War II veteran, was formally recognized as the country's oldest living veteran earlier this month, traveling to Washington, D.C., for the first time.

Heard aboout this gentleman on the way to work tonight listening to Red Sox play by play guys who interviewed him last week. Our hero here discussed the secret of his longevity to which he credited an avoidance of all contact with TV......Single his entire life, never fathered a child, enjoyed a morning eye opener smoking a quality cigar at breakfast but kept that brain rottening, soul evacuating radiation box far far from him......tough to argue with.

A disabled Iraq vet giving a speech following a parade, said he appreciates people thanking him for his service but that's why we have Veteran's Day. Memorial Day is about the martyrs.

Just got back from 4 great days back home in PA...
On monday we were at my sis's apmt and in the lobby i spotted a guy with a WWII cap..I had my AF cap on..told him my 4 years were all in country..thanked him for his service and said 'you look too young to be a WWII vet'...he said heck man i'm 88!..we chatted for awhile...good guy..

Saw an article on Yahoo last month about the last reunion of the Doolittle Raiders. One of them is 97 and can still fly a B-25!!! Good to see that some of those guys are still around. Took some big cojones to go on that mission.
