Thankfully Verrazano won't be unnecessarily rushed -- Pegasus next.

“It’s six weeks before the Haskell – I like that spacing,” Pletcher said. “It’s seven weeks out from the Derby, which gives him enough of a freshening.”
Could be a decent race though with Itsmyluckyday also possibly running there.

My favorite day in racing used to be when you could go to the JC Gold Cup during the day and head to the Meadowlands that night for the Pegasus.

Todd is carefully planning Verrazano's campaign to avoid having to run in any NY races. The poor dear needs at least six or seven weeks between races. What's after the Haskell.....the prestigeous Indiana Derby?

I'd love to see him on turf, but doubt we ever will.

The Easy Goer, being run on Belmont Day, is now worth $150K, the same purse as the Pegasus.

I get why they're going to MTH--the Let's Go guys live right down the road and they're looking for a run over the track before the Haskell. Maybe when he gets beat in the latter they'll switch surfaces... or retire him.

You are the only reason I don't have the worst spelling on message boards. If I was home I would have been able to use a dictionary before posting. Believe it or not, I don't have one in my Belmont office.

That sort of aggressive campaigning is going to require several months of recovery. Maybe BC Mile, but has the Stakes schedule for Gulfstream been released yet?

Itsmyluckyday is not running in the Belmont...going to take on Verrazano in the Pegasus.

With the copycat nature of horse racing, just imagine if he had won the Kentucky Derby with the way he was trained.

Itsmyluckyday was given almost all of February off. He went into the Florida Derby off a layoff, and came into the Kentucky Derby with probably the most bizarre/conservative training pattern in the entire history of the Derby. However, before the Preakness, he worked 47 flat at Monmouth.

It kind of felt like trainer Eddie Pleasa Jr. didn't think this was a classic distance horse ... as he was clearly managing him like a horse who he wanted to have peaking going into the Preakness and Haskell (9f at his home track) instead of a horse being primed for the Derby.

Itsmyluckyday has run 3 triple digit Beyer figures in fast track dirt routes this year ... current division leader Orb has 0 triple digit figures on a fast track.

But, Orb leads 2-to-1 in the head-to-head match-ups ... although those two wins came when Orb was at the peak of his form cycle and Itsmyluckyday was coming back from a layoff and was kid gloved into those two races where Orb beat him.
