using that i'll double shoehorn the fantastically weird and creative first season of twin peaks into this discussion of bad tv. it was one of the best things network tv ever gave us. log lady's and cherry pies.

the descent into whatever the second season was i blame on bad acid and abc's insistence that a killer be identified. but even that can't take away the thrill of seeing the uncompromising weirdness of david lynch on network tv.

Yes, didn't miss an episode...Love Lynch's work...especially the movie Blue Velvet, truly whacko..my favorite whacko Dennis Hopper to Isabella Rossellini 'Ok spread em'...and years ago my son put me on Eraserhead
still trying to figure that one out.

I think the show also got hamstrung because it was supposed to just be a miniseries, right? And then ABC (I think it was ABC) ordered a full season and that kind of screwed everything up. Same thing happened with Lost (which I would call one of the both best and worst series of the aughts). An open-ended long-form mystery show is a recipe for disaster.
