Ghostzapper: G1 wins at 6.5,8,9,10 f. Not "slew-worthy" but still great in my book.

I put memorable horses into two categories: great careers and great performances. Often, I look at the comparison between the first and second place horses in the '02 2000 Guineas. Many on here will say that Hawk Wing was vastly more talented than The Rock. I disagree, but I can accept that view. This view is likely coined by the couple of absolutely freakish performances Hawk Wing dished out. However, he only had one win at 3 and one at 4. The Rock, on the other hand, was a machine. He ran as well as he had to and always got the job done - save for one dreary Chicago day. So, while Hawk Wing may have had the cooler highlight film, Rock of Gibralter clearly had the greater career (albeit, too short in its own right). Personally, I tend to go with great careers over one or two freaky performances.

again, see finley.
yes, he said, GZ was great. and as he said, great just isn't so great anymore.

there are greats. and then there are modern era greats. not everything improves with time.
