Speaking of other things not to eat- fascinating article in the NYTimes today on the food industry's research and marketing techniques, all geared toward getting us to eat more processed foods:

http://www.nytimes.com/2013/02/24/ma...agewanted=all&

Makes me think of Michael Pollan's food rules: "Eat Food. Not too much. Mostly plants."

What not to wear:

Hey I know, let's skin various animals alive for a pair of shoes.

(On Beyonce...)

These custom-made kicks come with a high price - and it`s paid by the various animals who were beaten and skinned alive or cruelly farmed and killed. Although most people aren`t as familiar with the types of animals (snakes, stingrays, crocodiles, and ostriches) killed for this single pair of sneakers, these animals are highly sensitive living beings who try hard to avoid capture and suffer enormously when trapped, netted, speared, and skinned alive," - PETA (there are times when they get it right)

skinned alive? doubt it. and i'd imagine the animals are also providing meat, not just leather. i don't go for cruelty, or for harvesting protected/endangered animals for supposed 'aphrodisiacs' and other nonsense, but i don't know that this fits in with that.
crocodiles are highly sensitive? i doubt zebras would agree. and i doubt anyone is skinning them alive. ostriches either, for that matter!

Go to the International Anti-Fur Coalition site or any of them really...

You wouldn't believe what happens at fur farms in China.

Vanderbilt University research on crocodiles and sensitivity...
