It's baseball ... the value of one position player means little. The most important player in baseball only appears once every five games when he's healthy. Once every four when the playoffs come around. Bonds couldn't even win a ring when he was putting up insane seasons in San Fran. |

How did Piazza not get in?

Probably a perception by some that he might have been involved with roids but never got caught ... combined with him being avg at best as a defensive catcher. Plus, they are tougher on guys the first few ballots.
Even though I watched very little baseball, he was a favorite player of mine when he was with the Mets. |

Total bullsh*t. He's only the greatest offensive catcher in the history of the game.

I think the writers sent a message and no offensive players from the so called steroid era got in (or will get in) on their first try.
Biggio and his 3,000 hits didn't get in either, and with Maddox and Glavine eligible next year it could be a long wait for some guys. I bet Frank Thomas doesn't get in next year in his first year of eligibility either. |

Remember all those rumors about him being gay? I had the chance to meet him in Vegas through a mutual friend. I assure you those rumors were completely false. Either that or the incredible looking women he was with was an act. Incredibly nice guy, too.

Travesty. Best offensive catcher ever and a fan favorite. He will get in next year.

I think the Home run records should be vacated and returned to Maris and Hammering Hank. Am I alone in this thinking?

Neither.....which fans ? loser Met fans ? Lenny Dykstra was a favorite of those fans too. Pudge Rodriguez is a hall of fame catcher, Piazza is no Pudge, Rodriguez or Fisk.

2 reasons. Clemens whipping that bat at his head, and being a little light in the spikes. Next year. Still no Luis Tiant ? what a farce |

There were always rumors that Mr. Piazza was a "switch" hitter, so to speak.
Not that it should affect his baseball status.
