Does anyone on this board think David Wells or Kenny Rogers belong in the hall of fame?

Sniper here is the reason i posed such a ridiculous question.David Wells has either 4 or 6 more wins than Catfish Hunter and 16 less losses.Kenny Rogers is similar and both have a better percentage than Catfish.Wells pitched a perfect game as did Catfish and has i think 1 less championship than Hunter.I agree neither Wells or Rogers belongs in.

Hunter did win 20 games for 5 straight years at least. Baseball-reference.com uses four different measurements of a players accomplishment and then compares each of them to HOF level.

Black Ink - average HOF is 40
Gray Ink - average HOF is 185
HOF Standards - average HOF is 50
HOF Monitor - > 100 means likely HOFer

Here are Hunter's numbers:
BI: 20
GI: 151
HOFS: 42
HOFM: 131.5

Here are Rogers' numbers:
BI: 2
GI: 87
HOFS: 30
HOFM: 66

And Wells:
BI: 24
GI: 123
HOFS: 40
HOFM: 88

So Hunter is far below average for a HOF but according to their index he does belong. Rogers isn't even close, Wells is close but still has a ways to go which is unlikely at his age.

I agree...both good pitchers but not HOFers. Besides which the next few years are gonna be crowded with candidates...most much more deserving!

Catfish Hunter is right up there with Tinkers and Evers as the most undeserving players with plaques in Cooperstown.

Let me throw this one at you.Had Dave Kingman not gotten injured 2 seasons he most probably would have hit 500 home runs.I think his total was 440 with a batting average in the 230's.With the barometer being 500 round trippers would this guy ever belonged if that scenario ever happened?

I'm not big on giving opinions as to who belongs in or not.
All I can tell you is that, since I live about 40 minutes from Cooperstown, it's a very nice place to bring your family. If you time your trip with the Hall of Fame game, tell your kids that there are lots of autographs available.
It's a "must" for baseball fans. Lake Otsego is beautiful, folks are friendly, and it's about an hour from Saratoga, so the Racing Museum might also be part of the trip.

To be honest, I consider the baseball HOF a fraud...and will feel that way until pete Rose is inducted!

I was there as a kid as well as Howe Caverns.When our son gets a little older that's one place i will take him.

My sons always loved it. Double Day field is very cool.
Also, if there into soccer, the Soccer Hall is in Oneonta...very close to Cooperstown.

Kingman went to my High school...the tale is that he hit a ball like 1000 feet after it stopped rolling down the street...
