Totally agree made my wife cry 3 times and actually got people clapping at the end.

Just give the Oscar to Daniel Day Lewis and probably Sally Field too. Made me go out and get the book "Battle Cry of Freedom" by James McPherson and read it for more of the broad background of the politics that went on. Also made me get out my Battle of Antietam PC game and start fighting that one again! I think Shiloh will be next.

Was tremendous. Best 'in theater' experience I've enjoyed since 'The King's Speech'..

As many plaudits as Day-Lewis receives, he astounds time after time. And the supporting cast was outstanding.

Heard Spielberg sat on the film for almost 10 years, because he wanted Daniel to play Lincoln and no one else. Apparently Daniel at the time thought Lincoln was too iconic to be played by himself.

What shocks me is Sally Field, the only one I felt that was miscast in the film, but surprisingly worked.

from what i saw, spielberg wasn't happy with the first script. that liam neeson was his first pick (they'd done schindler's list together) but that neeson later said he thought he'd gotten too old to play him. i can't see liam in that role. i thought ddl was perfect for the role, and he did a fabulous job. some on set thought it was eerie, that abe had almost come to life.

when i saw sally field, i said wha? but she worked. brilliant casting job. except for alexander stephens-he was too good looking to play that guy!

I liked the movie too. I saw it last week. Glad everyone enjoyed it.

It's cool going to the movies and when you really like the movie it makes for a great experience.

How about Tommy Lee Jones? While I won't go as far as saying he stole some of the limelight away from the out of this world performance by Day Lewis, he owned the scenes he was in.

like i said earlier, he did a good job. enjoyed the entire movie, thought everyone did a great job.

Haven't seen it yet but did they show the scene of Mrs Lincoln leaving the theater and the Paparazzi was hanging around and one of them said to her,'Other than that Mrs Lincoln how did you like the play'....old sick joke..

'Lincoln' leads Golden Globes nominations.

Steven Spielberg's Civil War epic "Lincoln" led the Golden Globes on Thursday with seven nominations, among them best drama, best director for Spielberg and acting honors for Daniel Day-Lewis, Sally Field and Tommy Lee Jones.

Tied for second-place with five nominations each, including best drama are Ben Affleck's Iran hostage-crisis thriller "Argo" and Quentin Tarantino's slave-turned-bounty-hunter tale "Django Unchained."

i cried when he was walking away towards the end. knew full well the ending, but it still completely sucks ass. that man gave everything he could to keep this country together and peace is finally about to be realized, and he could reap the fruits of his labors, and that bastard kills him. god it makes me so pissed.



mcpherson wrote a great book. get the rest in that series of american history. what hath god wrought is good-they all are.
and have you read shelby foote's three books? it's a handful, but well worth the time and effort.

Haven't read Foote's books yet but I will. Next up is a recent one about Thomas Jefferson that I heard the author talk about on NPR. I'll no doubt get to the other books of McPherson's too.

Also can recommend the Salman Rushdie Auto-bio "Joseph Anton"...very interesting read.

i have a couple of books on jefferson, but none have made me like the guy yet. my least favorite founding father.
