When my father had his trainers license revoked, he bought a bar in the city called Clancy's and it was basically a hub for bookmaking during the day and dice and card games above it at night. This was in the mid 80's right before 'The Downs at Erie' opened ...and the only place in town to get a DRF was Dee's Cigar Store.

The only detective in the city who handled homicide cases at the time, he would be on the phone placing bets to my father all day long. He would call him up with $2 exacta wheels and everything else. At one point, he owed my father about a thousand dollars, and pops got so sick of taking his bets that he told him "we are even! Just please, don't call here anymore with your bets." the detective refused, paid him off, and kept the all-day phone calls coming.

the same as every year. i spend about 800 - 900 $$$ a year on gambling. that includes A.C., monticello, live racing, online wagering, slots,lottery,,etc...

thats about $2.32 a day. much less than a gallon of gas or $12.50 for a movie.

and for that 2.32 i can usually gamble for hours each day.

thats value for your dollar!

i think we all have gambling addictions of some sort and a love for this sport and it's unique way of gambling.

whether it's 2.32 a day or a thousand a day, it's still addicting. for me., i love the sport.

it's 1:42, am i, am taking the #1 in australia 8C to place.

I don't really bet much, but from a fan point of view, this was my best year ever by a long way. Saw more than 25 G1 races live in three countries, including three Derbies - NZ, Kentucky and Epsom.
