It's hard to believe both Recaptured and Frac Daddy regressed 15+ Beyer points from their previous start.

Mark Casse and myself were discussing that this morning. The beyer folks put alot of thought into yesterdays card as the figures were out 10 minutes after the last race was over.

At least they had other route races to compare it with..The obvious slow fractions had something to do with slow final time. Anyway, they are two nice colts.

The 3 two-turn route races on the card were all at 8.5 furlongs and were all 2yo races:

Maiden Special Weight: 23.80 - 24.95 - 24.60 - 24.70 - 6.51 (1:44.56)
Grade 2 stake for fillies: 23.85 - 24.48 - 25.59 - 24.96 - 6.37 (1:44.95)
Grade 2 stake for Open: 24.37 - 24.79 - 24.75 - 24.43 - 6.63 (1:44.97)

The fastest section of each race is underlined and in bold.

Here is a column.

Bad horses don't run 10th beaten 8 lengths in good races.

CJ, do you believe the track slowed down throughout the day?

How plausible is McPeek's explanation that the track "thawed out" during the day?

I don't remember if I split the variant, but they ran basically the same exact time as the Golden Rod, which was won by a 31 to 1 shipper over a horse that hadn't run near as fast as the colts coming in. How much thawing took place between those two races?
