Is it wrong for me to want to punch Baird in the face for charging $1000 for that horse?

Supposedly that was what his guy in Thistledown was going to pay him, if he even exists.

We had no direct contact with him throughout the whole process, everything went through the other trainer there, including as the story mentioned the day my wife paid for her.

In the end though, the $ wasn't a big deal and he did keep his word on giving us first dibs on buying her.

What you did was really great. It just pisses me off when these guys take money from people that could be used to care for the horse. While I also understand that when you "give" a horse away there is always the threat that someone will profit by just flipping them to the meat market getting $1000 for a complete liability (earning nothing but still eating whatever meager feed they were giving her) is not exactly ok

You obviously know a lot more about this scenario than me, what do you think should have happened then? A couple hundred dollars? We are not or never did complain about the 1k purchase price, but like you said that $ could have went towards the horse instead of in Baird's pocket.

And thanks to everyone else. My wife just left to take her to her new home.

Those pictures are awesome! Thanks. What a great personality she shows! What a kind face in her lovely new halter. I just LOVE the picture of her in the paddock, and sticking her inquisitive head out of the trailer ...

One life at a time

you'd think when a trainer had a horse they no longer wanted, they'd give $1k to the person stepping up, not the opposite.

There's some wear and tear on those joints ... great pics. New life of being spoiled by three horse-crazy little girls? Heaven!

Be sure to post the picture of her with her new family, when her mane is braided with multicolored ribbons, she's wearing a pink hat, and is being ridden bareback with a halter by two of the kids at a time :-)
