from espn:

NEW YORK -- I'll Have Another's bid for a Triple Crown ended with the shocking news that the colt was out of the Belmont Stakes due to a swollen left front tendon.

According to Dennis O'Neill, brother of trainer Doug O'Neill, the horse galloped Friday morning and after a veterinary scan, the tendon seemed "kind of tender."

Dennis O'Neill told The Associated Press that "the horse is sound and happy, but it's not worth it."

Doug O'Neill, in an interview with "The Dan Patrick Show," said the horse being scratched is "not tragic, but it's a huge disappointment."

O'Neill will hold a news conference early Friday afternoon at Belmont Park.

After winning the Kentucky Derby and the Preakness Stakes, I'll Have Another was on the verge of becoming the first Triple Crown champion since Affirmed in 1978.

When Patrick asked Doug O'Neill if I'll Have Another has raced his last horse race, O'Neill said, "If I had to wager ... I would say yes."

This doesn't sound good.

He does not have the stallion credentials I look for at all...but someone will still pay, I guess.

Just awful. My interest went from completely fired up about getting to the track early to I may just go to the golf tournament.

Was the advanced wagering already taking place prior to the news breaking? That would be a n eat little ticket to have.

You can catch the video on ESPN. Jeannine Edwards says that Kenny McPeek believes the injury took place in his stall. He heard when IHA vioilently kicked a bucket in his stall. I guess the detention barn was to his liking

that was the part that caught my eye. why does this spell the end for his career??? he's not a highly bred horse. i haven't seen the clamor for him like i have in the past with other horses...so why would may of his 3 yo season be the end?

so it is bowed? well, that is a lot different than the 'start of tendinitis' i read about earlier.

No, it's not bowed.

DRF......

“We don’t want to take any chances,” O’Neill continued. “The bottom line is it’s not tragic, no one got killed, there are much bigger issues in the world.”

O’Neill, who has handled himself with remarkable calm and class the last three weeks, called it “a huge disappointment. At the same time what a horse, what a run. Though it’s heartbreaking its not tragic. We’ll be back with another one, hopefully next year.”
