The Long Island Railroad (LIR) will have many trains going to Belmont Park. You can pick it up at Penn Station.

Coup, if your little profile on the right side of the screen is correct, and you live in VA, are you planning on driving or taking a train to NYC?

If you plan on coming in the day before and are driving, you might want to look for a hotel in Queens (shorter drive to the track on Saturday). If you're planning on taking Amtrak, you'd probably want a hotel in Manhattan, so you can take the Belmont Special from Penn Station on Saturday.

I see the gates open at 815AM on Belmont Stakes Day. Should I assume that people will be lined up outside earlier than that to get good space in the backyard?

Unless you want a rail spot or a place next to the paddock, there's no need to be there at 8:15, at least in my opinion.

We'll probably drive in from VA. And, we might come in Wednesday or Thursday, since we've never been to NYC.

I just want to say that I really appreciate everyone's feedback. We're really excited, as I'm sure everyone else is.

Thanks Slot. Trying to figure out what time to get there if we just do GA.

There will be a lot of people there, don't get me wrong, but hardly the mass of humanity seen at the Derby. Belmont Park is massive.

It's time I finally made the trip. Just deal with whatever is thrown at you as far as traffic, lines, crowds, bad beats and so on. And at the end of the day, hopefully history is made and I was there to witness it.

What an excellent post! I was there for Rags' Belmont and that was a day I'll never forget, a Triple Crown winner? I can't even imagine! It may or may not happen, but that rush you get as they break from the gate will be worth it!

They'll be running for spots on the rail. There's usually space in the backyard throughout the day. That's where all the food is, too.

Holy sh*t; you ain't kidding. The trip back was a major pain in the neck. I think we stood in line for 90 minutes before getting on one.

We were up against the rail- we got in position a few hours before the race. Our feet were killing us by the time it was all over.

i had it good, i think the seats were finish line loge?? the carnage in the paddock was as bad as the calif. jam 2 i was at in 78.

alysheba was a no show........i dont know if it was the 4th race in 48 days or no lasix. the sunday silence race was Easy Goer showing how good he was....and he was pretty good.

Ya if I remember easy goer ran the second fastest time. Both races were blowouts but still a great day

This question was probably asked and answered but does anyone know if you can just walk up and get a general admission ticket. I would like to head down but would rather not have to get there early. Maybe be there by noon. Do they sell out of GA?

Slotdirt is right; they don't stop selling GA. It won't be too horribly crowded yet at noon.

Does anyone know if the LIRR has posted the schedule for Belmont Stakes Day yet? All I can find is the regular schedule and I imagine they have to be running more than two trains on June 9.
