Default Arizona team forfeits championship game

Our Lady of Sorrows Academy (ironically named) has forfeited the state title baseball game rather than play against Mesa prep...why? Because Paige Sultzback (a freshman) plays second base for Mesa. Twice during the regular season the two teams met and Paige sat out but she refused to miss the championship game...good for her! OLofS claims that it is against their beliefs as a Catholic school to mix the "education" of boys and girls...what crap. They can run their school as they see fit but they have no right to dictate to other schools. The great thing here is that Paige is a freshman so this can go on for two more years.

screw the catholic "beliefs".. like the belief of hiding pedophiles by moving them to different churches.

I try very hard to respect the beliefs of others but there are times when I wonder where folks' heads are at. The Catholic Church has always sought to degrade women, no surprise there...but to try and impose one's beliefs on others crosses every line. I feel sorry for the kids who worked hard all year to get to the game and if I were a parent of one...I'd be quite upset!

Our Lady of Sorrows is run by the U.S. branch of the Society of Saint Pius X. The group represents conservative, traditional priests who broke from the Catholic Church in the 1980s.

I do not believe Catholics are against co-ed sports.

You are correct. Catholic grade school soccer is co-ed in my area.

yes, as anti-women as the catholics are, in this particular case this group broke away from the catholic church. they disagreed with the vatican 'reforms' and went their own way. hard to believe that someone wanted to be more strict regarding females.

I'm all for criticism where warranted, but a simple google search would show that this Our Lady of Sorrows school has nothing to do with the Catholic church. The Girls Scouts investigation though? That's all them.

if only they were so determined to get to the bottom of all the abuse allegations in the parishes.

i have zero respect for the catholic church, so sure my opinion is biased.

though my statement wasnt nearly as ignorant as the catholic church was when it comes to child abuse.

What happened with child abuse was truly reprehensible, no one should ever argue that point. It is the darkest event in the history of the faith.

However, to say that it is a Catholic "belief" to harbor and save pedophiles is over the top.

I agree it's not a "catholic belief" but hard to argue that it's not a catholic church belief given the extent of the coverup!

you are correct. it is not a catholic belief and catholics out there were the ones harmed by this. It is more like Catholic leaders' and the Vatican way of protecting the worst of criminals.

Lots of Catholics do lots of great and selfless work all over the world. The abuse scandals suck to be sure, but I don't think it's fair to lump the entire lot of Roman Catholics into the same boat.
