and you also have to keep in mind that the odds dont have anything to do with the exacta payouts. Although they are an indicator.

The beauty of the tote board. So many people think win odds are always indicative of other pools and they are not. So many people play exactas, you gotta keep up with the payoffs. Some exacta combinations are way overbet compared to what the win pool. Its also why so many other type of bets where one has no idea what the size of the pool can be pleasantly suprising, or absolutely dissappointing.

You are so correct. Plus you have no idea how many tickets there with the combination you have in relation to the pool. When I bet an exacta, I typically wait to last possible moment to make sure the exactas will pays make sense. I will never forget a time at Keeneland when Julie Krone was on a 5/2 shot and Willie Martinez was on a 2-1 shot in a 10 horse field and I looked at the exacta will pays and the Krone/Martinez combo paid $33 and the Martinez/Krone combo paid $20. I was like--HUH!!!!! Krone's horse was bet down from 6-1 so I went ahead and boxed them multiple times--the race came Krone/Martinez. I will never forget that.

Indeed those things can happen. It pays to watch the numbers. I dont think people get away with these things at larger tracks. Smaller tracks with a smaller number of bets can be wonderful places to find strange numbers.

In the Vosburgh the only reason I hit the exacta is because the Henny/War Front exacta and War Front/Henny exactas paid like triple what the same exactas paid with Silver Train in place of Henny despite Henny going off as the favorite. Amazing what you can find by looking at the probables.

If you are an exacta better you have to get track of the will pays. How could you not!!!!!!!!!!

I know win odds and exacta payouts are 2 different animals. But they usually are indicators or what an exacta could be. I figured with the big 14 horse field, a few luke-warm favortes, and the fact that a longshot came in on top, and a big handle: I thought I deserved more. Also payoffs all day were coming in big.

The key is "few luke-warm favs." That means most exotic bettors went pretty deep in their tickets. Basically, there was a single to take most of the money in the pool.
