Never heard of that before, but it's interesting that it's credited to the Greek immigrant community, and that the spices mentioned are a part of the spices that make up Cincinnati chili, which is widely regarded as being of Greek origin (two of the major players were started by Greek families), although the wiki page

Another favorite in the area is goetta

While the store-bought is pretty good, home-made is the best. I have good recipies for both Cincinnati chili and goetta. (Goetta also happens to be the name of a champion Quarter Horse.)

The local thang where I live now is Frogmore Stew, aka Lowcountry Boil.
